What recordings did you have in mind? I would like to test the hyphothesis. I play a lot of very old recordings and they sound great, no damage so far that I can detect.
If I play the Densen DeMag disc more than 5 times consecutively (moderately low level) my system will sound like they were taken straight out of their boxes first time - totally un-run-in. Takes a day or two of playing normal music to restore the system back to the run-in state.
Certain sound elements in recordings can indeed "change" how audio systems can sound.
Sometimes quite the opposite… Telarc’s famed audiophile version of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture often threatened my speakers… not because of the so called dynamics but because it made me want to punch my speaker drivers.
