A simple question I think. What albums demand to be played through? At least a 'side' or preferably a complete album. Kind of Blue, many of Pink Floyd's albums, Joni Mitchel's Hejira come to mind for me.

Neil Young. On the beach
Donna Hathaway. Live
Led Zeppelin. Physical Graffiti
James Brown. Live at the Appolo
Cat Stevens. Tea for the Tillerman
Fleetwood Mac. Rumours
Aretha Franklin. Spirit in the Dark
Ween. Chocolate and Cheese
Jimi Hendrix. Axis bold as love
Cat Power. Free
Lucinda Williams. Car wheels on a gravel road
Bill Withers. Live at Carnegie hall
Derek and the Dominos. Layla
War. The world is a ghetto

Off the top of my head,

War of the worlds. Jeff Wayne.
The City. Vangelis
Ricochet. Tangerine Dream
The Deep. Ian Boddy
Past, present and future. Al Stewart
Take the A train. The third.
...and a few hundred others

So many, this one for example, which I am currently listening to E2375231-4D9D-4C03-91EC-678F53F904AD.jpeg
or this one ....which is now playing too

I usually listen to the entirety of an album. But "A Love Supreme" always demands my full attention...

Mike, i just LOVE that album. Eat A Peach is right up there.

Me? Simply the greatest trio of live albums ever, Miles Davis, Dark Magus/Agharta/Pangea...6 lps to put a spring in yr step.

And the cosmically amazing Stomu Yamashta, Go. Imagine a world music/multi continent collection of talent reimagining DSOTM.

'Bowie's Glastonbury 2000', six sides that always draw me in. Be a lie to say I listen to six sides everytime but the majority of the time would be accurate. I like this LP set enough that I refuse to play them often for fear I will wear off the shear enjoyment.

They need time specifically set aside, the first drink pre poured, lights dimed. . . . . Oh this may happen tonight

Axis Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix

Gaucho - Steely Dan

I always listen to the complete album, out of respect to the artist, and often my preferences have changed over time. Listeners that play playlist of favorites are sometimes missing the cohesiveness and artistic intent of an album.

Jethro Tull, Aqualung
Beatles, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Beatles, Abbey Road

@ptman, I’m totally wit you on the Beatles records. I’d probably throw the White Album, and Rubber Soul in there too; even though they weren’t “conceptualized as such.... Ironically, I find myself in the same frame of mind when I’m listening to many of the great classical symphonic works - go figure, lol!

Listening to recordings front-to-back are likely more prevalent among those of us whose stereo listening developed in the pre-CD days. With a couple of exceptions, the albums cited in this thread are older, put-the-album on the turntable gems where when the album was placed on the turntable, it was assumed we were in for the full album, in the order that the artist/producer intended.

I'd also like to add multiple Pink Floyd to the list: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall.

I guess that I am an old school guy. I always listen to all my albums front-to-back regardless whether they are high rez files, CDs/SACDs, vinyl or tapes.
