Although purity is not a WBF approved sound qualifier, any one having listened to an all ARC system with the Aida's will immediately understand what the poster means with it. If, as me, you valuate a lot this aspect, there is no doubt on the choice.
I just was listening to blue six--and the name of the song that I played was pure-- funny I used it here--:

Well...I think my gear synergy is much closer to supporting Aida's. I'm sure the Magico are wonderful in their own right, but would require a full shift in gear. I don't think I could possibly part with my REF 10. A friend of mine who had the same speakers and same amps as me, but a completely different preamp came for a listen. After two songs, he said to me "that REF 10 is the hero in your chain." :)

Jeff Dorgay at Tone Audio (which I enjoy reading) reviewed the Aida's paired with the Pass XA amps and he felt it was a very good combination. Since even the preowned Aida's are a stretch for me, I will have to run the with Pass XA amps and REF 10 until I can afford to swap the amps for a pair of REF 250's and DS450M's. I might love the combo so much that I end up keeping the Pass amps anyway.

Thanks for your responses. Thankfully the used Aida's are in red! :)

As an isolated thing, I prefer the Q5. Heck, I'd even rather have the Q3. But given your situation, the Aidas make more sense.
Why would you need to replace the Ref 10? The Q5 would need more power, so you could move up the Pass ladder.

I would have gone Q5 too, with lot of power if within your budget at least 300 Watts at 8 ohms ... I don't see why you should get rid of the REF10 either ...

No

I am not sold on the SF sound however. I did like the Electa Amator but not the other SF I heard. Call it a bias.

The best SF sound I've heard was actually at RMAF about 3-4yr. ago in a larger suite in the upper tower. Wish I knew which one it was.

If it was 3-4 years ago it was not the TheSonusFaber, AKA Fenice, the best speaker I have ever listened to. Happily it needs a larger space than mine. They are being used with a Pass XS in a WBF member system.

I've never heard the Aida or the Q5. But, I'm using the Sonus Faber Futuras myself, and I've heard the Magico V3 and S5 on several occasions. I believe these brands represent two quite different sides of the flavor spectrum. So, I guess it's either a question of love or hate for one of them, or you're one of those audio bigamist who has the ability to actually love more than one species at one time :) The looks and presence of the Aida kills the Q5 of course..

Well being pedantic one could also say yellow :)
Red was the international racing colour side of Ferrari while yellow is the colour associated with Modena/some models.

Smiling because well yellow just not so cool as a red Ferrari, although I doubt anyone is brave enough to repaint any of the classics even if yellow bleh :)
Cheers

Hehe yeah ok Micro :)
But honestly yellow is also the colour of Ferrari and relates to Modena flag and where Enzo was born, red is their racing heritage and most of their cars are that colour, but some classics were also offered yellow, or I should say Modena Yellow :)
Also there was black but not in same league as the red and yellow, and red is the primary colour I agree due to it being the defacto standard of the start of their racing heritage (had to race in that colour I think) where Ferrari began.

I've been told that Magico works really well with Spectral gear and hence I believed that to be both the amp and preamp.

I've never been a fan of "The Sonus Faber" speaker from a looks perspective. But I've heard it sounds terrific. I personally love the look of the Aida. It's both gorgeous and unique looking. Easier to drive too. :)
