What Do We Mean By "Resolution"?

My thoughts are simple. Resolution is the total amount of complexity of details
Where detail is what you can understand . Resolution is beyond this.
If I hear live unamplified music in a small venue I can't hear all at once , but can pick out any parts and get all there is.
Yes one can say its all there and you hear it all at once . Maybe my brain can't digest all at once , but I'm thinking no one can.
A small system can only give you but so much detail where a larger system more
But both have the amount of resolution if pay close attention . Meaning to there is more then one might be able to separate to digest

We audiophiles talk endlessly about various sonic attributes we believe we discern from stereo systems. One of these attributes is "resolution."

The 6th definition of "resolution" in the American Heritage Dictionary provides:
6. The clarity or fineness of detail that can be distinguished in an image, often measured as the number or the density of the discrete units, such as pixels or dots, that compose it.

Does this definition work if we modify it to provide: the clarity or fineness of detail that can be distinguished in reproduced sound?

What, exactly, do "we" mean by "resolution" in the audio context?

What is your definition of "resolution" in this audio context? What, precisely, do you mean by "resolution"?

How do we know that one component or one audio system is more "resolving" than another component or than another audio system?

How do we decide where on the spectrum of less resolving --> to --> more resolving a particular component or a particular audio system sit
I've been wondering all these stuff for a long time, but I actually just started using digital streaming system not long ago, like 2 months maybe, as in " Resolution " I'd say it's very subjective... like some people just can't hear the difference between MP3 and Flac, so it doesn't matter to them, or the sampling rate, for me I couldn't really tell the differences between DSD 256 and DSD 512, I believe they all got real nice " resolution " as in Hi-Fi audio, but still, the ultimate result is how your hears feel it... music is just like that haha, like art painting, very subjective yet intriguing...

Nice one mate.

Also, I believe there's varied levels of resolution in tubes and how the bias is calibrated in output tubes. Just recently, my monoblocks required a full output tube changeover. So they were sent to my specialist tech and he checked out a few things. A few sockets were arcing, so fixed that. All the resistors on the bias circuits were changed to high quality Vishays (metal foils) and the Class A bias was adjusted perfectly using measuring instruments and scopes. Placed in the new KT120's and some new Mullards on the input stage and wow!

This time round the resolution factor has changed, an improvement towards a further 10% I would say. I could also further analyse resolution into other areas, such as clarity, definition and the outlines of imaging, seems more wholesome and holographic. These adjustments were last done in 2019, so perhaps 3 yrs was about time up. Glad I got it done!

Cheers, and enjoy those fine tunes !
