Telefunken Magnetophone 85 repair

Hi.

My friend has a (German) reel-to-reel Telefunken Magnetophone 85 KLE.

The left brake engages when you press play, which retards or stops the reel from turning. Smaller reels may turn faster than larger reels. (I think it's when you press play; I may not understand the normal operation correctly.)

We replaced some belts a couple years back.

The manual mentions a problem with a worn brake lever (I assume that is labeled "b" in the drawing) which might need replacement. Or, it might be just out of adjustment, hopefully.
