Maybe a dumb question, but are the take up and supply spooling motors interchangeable ?
In other words, can I buy a take up motor and use it on the supply side of the machine and vice versa ? TIA

I only see the "spooling motor" in the manual. It doesn't differentiate it between "take up" and "supply" Maybe they are interchangable.

If you have a parts or service manual, I would see if the part numbers are the same.

A call to Revox for their A810 or Studer for their A810 could answer the question tomorrow morning!

I have the manual and I see no differentiation for spooling supply and take up motors as Bruce said. I think they must be the same as they spin in the same directions. Perhaps Master Ki can chime in.

Brice is correct. Both Spooling Motors are the same. If you plan to replace the motor with brake drum in place, you need to be careful that the brake band wear and brake drum surface match. They could have different wear pattern and may cause squealing sound or poor brake performance.

While you have the Spooling Motors out of the machine, one of the best things you can do for an A810 is to replace the two ball bearings (#41.99.0105 available from Athan) in the motor. It makes a big difference especially when the old motors have marginal bearings in most cases due to age (dry out...)
