I was very sad to learn that a man profoundly respected for his speaker knowledge, scientific and technical expertise, and outstanding capability to make the bridge between the scientific and subject aspects of stereo sound reproduction died last September. Siegfried Linkwitz was a true scientist but also an audio innovator. I have often posted links to his outstanding and extremely comprehensive site - a true reference in the audio word, filled with well though and explained subjective concepts, but also the hard mathematics behind his technical achievements. Besides his professional career, he had the heart of a DIY man, and implementations of his designs, some times very sophisticated, are spread all over the world. I really hope his site - the LinkitzLab - will stay on forever. http://www.linkwitzlab.com/

Thanks Woofer and Tweet for remembering this great man in WBF some weeks ago https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/woofer-and-tweet.22527/post-531363

May he rest in piece.

Almost five years after Siegfried Linkwitz passing, TheAbsoluteSound reviews one of his his top designs, the LX521.4. Tom Martin writes an excellent technical article, covering the innovative models developed by SL, as well as a a very good subjective review comparing it to more classical designs. See it at https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/the-linkwitz-lx521-4-dipole-loudspeaker-review/ and

For a more complete description of the LX521.4 look at the Linkwitz Lab site https://www.linkwitzlab.com/LX521/LX521_4.htm . The speaker can be built by DIY audiophiles, we can easily buy the plans and materials.

Siegfried Linkwitz is one of the people who created audio as it is now. We hope to see his legacy being used and appreciated forever. Thank you for bringing that in here.
For those who don't know who he was: a genius acoustic engineer who founded the basics for contemporary loudspeaker design.

It has always amazed me that his speakers got so little attention in the mainstream press. They are astounding value for money .. particularly in kit form.
His generosity in sharing the theory and practice of dipole speaker design was above and beyond!
In spite of the slightly inaccurate history it is good to see a positive review.
Cheers
Phil

My views on how floor bounce is innocuous, and how uniform polar response is so important in enabling our ear-brain biological computer to synthesize a believable phantom stereo soundstage.
