preamp tubes in a vintage amp

I have a 1961 Gibson skylark 5 watt amplifier that uses unique tubes. In the schematic it appears to have a pair of 6EU7 preamp tubes, yet a 6C4 has been placed in one of the preamp sockets. Is this ok for the amplifier....that is to say will it damage the transformer(s)
