The prequel to The Wizard Of Oz

I will be interesting to see how the characters in Disney's prequel compares to those in Gregory Maguire's Wicked.

In Wicked she is actually a good witch but in the prequel she is a very bad witch

So Disney is keeping with the expectations of the original story line.

That's my understanding but I may be wrong

That's too bad.

It would be good to teach impressionable young children that things aren't always as they seem, and for the price of a movie, that lesson would be a bargain!

I know, I'm a cynic! :D

I don't know if I can ever watch this. I don't want to ruin my thoughts of the original, perhaps the best movie ever made. We just saw it on the blue ray special reissue and it was unbelievable. There are major problems I see with this prequel, the biggest being that Warner Bros. owns the original and all its imagery. How can there be an OZ without a land of "OZ" as we see/remember in the original? And did you see all the CG effects? I shuddered when the hat was thrown to the balloon... ugggg. So fake.

I am amazed that the cost to make this film was $325M

Amazed is an understatement, more like appalled. I think Hollywood is expert in funny math.

Edit: sorry about the above post... the trailer froze, there is a similar looking land of OZ in the prequel.

they should rename this film "Oz the Terrible" - yowsers was this a disappointment. I couldn't wait until it was over!
