Mytek Manhattan

All roads lead there.

This thread started with Bruce's review, and someone compared the Mytek to the Lampi, so that by itself would have left incorrect information unless the dac level was correctly specified. Kind of saying Wilson, without specifying which model, could even be the center channel

I wrote a review of the Level 4 Lampi for PFO and my reference DAC is the Mytek Stereo 192.

Heard it…full stack at a show with my music for 2 hous and top quality associated gear, didnt bowl me over. Sorry.
Just curious exactly which model you have heard, and with what associated equipment. The gap between each of the four levels of Totaldac is supposed to be quite significant. The one in the link is the top level d1-twelve, which is currently in Mono and Stereo's Über Audio list.

Sounded very good, mind you, but nothing said end of the road as Paul intimated.

That set up was the tube dac. The MK1 at that... Damn far cry from a fully decked out Twelve. Judging sound at a show? Really? How many have you been to? IME, I have never heard a show system, ANY, that topped what I get at home.

So your "heard it" is not at all accurate with regards to what I was talking about. I was talking about the Twelve. Have you heard it?? This one knocks out every DAC I have heard, and by a very big margin.

True. I can't judge sound at a show either. Now, this thread had Bruce's Lampi vs mytek comparison, to which I clarified any ambiguity fork might have caused between Lampi models, and then Paul jumped in with total dac.

Those who want to compare total dac and Lampi should put them next to each other

Hope this doesn't turn into a stupid pissing contest

That's the bottom of the Totaldac range :)

Ya, that and the Totaldac Server is at least twice what it was at that time as well. Vincent has really turned it into a world class source. It now has a better quad core cubox, and he has the software down now as well. I was the guinea pig for several new image files. The differences they made was stunning using a couple of them. You can literally make the server sound however you like. It's crazy good now.

Actually I'm quite curious about Lampi. but where I live, there is no easy access for a quick taste.

Hmm... Seems to me pissing contest is always following the Lampi around on the net these days :) In any case, enough digression already. I'll shut up.

Let me clarify. A comparison is not a pissing contest. Comparing a dac to trinity, esoteric k01, playback designs mpd 5, BADA, and msb by keeping out next to them in the same system, sometimes owning both, is well, a comparison. This one is not.

No doubt, but have you heard a broken in Golden Gate yet? Not so expensive and lets just say it not chopped liver.

East-central Canada. Know any examples of Big 7 or GG around?

I do, most of the time :)

Oh no problem at all :) I wouldn't mind visiting his showroom with the SoulSonic speakers either. Should be quite spectacular.

Toronto has B7s and a GG, I think.

You are likely in Manitoba (Winterpeg), no?…or is it Saskatchawan? I only know Ontario and Quebec….went to Concordia myself.

All the top guys have more than decent sound, so we relly debate prefernces and small nuances.

I have had great demos at shows (that Voxativ/TD show presentation was with 2 of my testing CDs) so it was almost a private demo for 90mins or so. Given that i have had 3-4 demos at Goldmund, a 2 hour private demo at CH Precision, and two whole Day sessions at Dartzeel, I think I do have a good basis to compare quality setups.
What you should do anything to hear is the Goldmund setup with the Annatta speakers…I didnt expet that…better to me than the flagship Apologues.

The update for the dac is still avaiable?
Anybody heard the update?

best

Josef
