Dear forum members, every year in Milan in October and in April/May in Rome, a wonderful event is held on high-end and, in general, on everything related to reproduced music. At the same time, just a few kilometers away, the good Giulio Cesare Ricci, owner of the Fonè label, organizes the Gran Galá, another similar event. All this has the advantage of almost doubling the exhibition space, thus giving emerging producers the opportunity to make themselves known to enthusiasts. This year I didn't see any major changes, but compared to the previous year, I noticed a notable influx of people on Saturday and Sunday. Compared to the previous year, I found a greater number of good-sounding rooms. To name a few, at the Milan Hi End, certainly the room where Diesis was exhibiting and certainly the one where I was exhibiting the Solution electronics with Marten speakers driven by the very Italian electronics Audia Flight with the Wadax and Techdas sources managed by Emanuele Bassetti of Audiplus Hi End, a room that exactly replicated the one present at the Munich fair. Also noteworthy was the room where ROCKPORT speakers with Gryphon amplifiers were present with a great sound. Certainly some other rooms offered a pleasant sound but due to the crowd of enthusiasts they became less usable also due to their small size. As for Giulio Cesare Ricci's grand gala, what caught my eye this year was the absence of FM acoustics but at the same time I found many small manufacturers who offered very valid equipment. In particular, I really liked the AudioLai production which offered both dipole speakers managed both in the crossovers and in the amplifiers with devices that worked in full digital domain. Truly, a great sound. If you happen to audition these products, don't miss it, you will be very surprised. Another room at the grand gala that deserved a lot of attention was that of Cartridge Lab, which, in addition to its cartridge and arm, exhibited a prototype of a truly well-made turntable that was also extremely valid as a side dish we found a Thrax pre-amp and the Italianissimi Stereosan speakers, all with Vyda cables with a digital source from the French company Metronome. In general, at the grand gala I found many rooms where you could enjoy excellent sound, especially because the spaces were much larger than at the Milano Hi End. If I have to make a substantial criticism, it concerns the truly monstrous prices in the Milo Hi End exhibition space dedicated to the sale of vinyl and tapes, almost double the market prices. The exception was the space occupied by Sound e Music, which offered prices exactly the same as those offered on its e-commerce site and even offered some titles on sale.
