Lampizator Pacific 3

Good evening, after a year of very happy coexistence with the Poseidon I decided to switch to the Pacific 3, for my passion for DHT and for the possibility I have of obtaining reliable and controlled nos. Yesterday it arrived at my house and is equipped with 4 PX4s from the new Korean label Stradi in addition to the 5U4G from KR. I'm thrilled, it immerses me in the music like when I listen to master copies from my Telefunken M15A. Soon I'll have the 300B WE and will start comparing. I use it without a preamp, which is a good choice for me and the other two inputs are also fine (phono and reel). In short, I'm happy.
The Pacific, combined with NOS tubes in special adapters made by TP from Hungary, is a killer DAC. I had multiple opportunities to switch my P2 to the Horizon 1, but since I’ve invested so much in special tubes and adapters, it was a tough decision. First of all, in terms of sound, my Pacific isn’t worse than a stock-tubed H1. Secondly, to take the H1 to the next level, I know I’d have to go for the 360 upgrade and then invest again in a new set of tubes, which would basically double the amount I paid for my P2 with tubes.

the tube rolling on the pacific is fantastic but also expensive...on the Poseidon more easy..

If you're into tube rolling on the PAC 3, my latest acquisition (about a year ago now) was a quartet of rare-to-find WE 101D's. Absolutely amazing DHT's that last over 50,000 hours (I suspect they will outlive me for sure!).

To get good WEs you have to go back past the 70s. The 90s are nowhere as good.

i bug the 90's t very good price...the 70s are more rare and expensive...step by step...
yes but the old ones are the good ones, the 90s can be bettered by modern tubes quite easily.

Pre in Pacific 2 and 3 is the same, it's just facelift to drop using those problematic chassis issues and set one standard finish quality for all of the more expensive models.
I believe, however, that the ratio between advantages and disadvantages of adding a preamp could tip the balance towards no preamp, unless there are particular input needs.

DAC without preamp section will sound better comparing to a DAC with inbuilt preamp, it's quite simple. And people who are aiming at a 36k DAC usually have a superb, dedicated preamplifier already, so why making it more complicated. I'm using my P2 with a active loudspeakers, so the volume control is a great feature, but I tried a 40k pre and it's day and night comparing to the one inside P2, nothing to compare really.
