Did anyone watch last nights Dodgers-Jays game

Here in California the game started at 500 and watching my two favorite teams in game 3 of the World Series (I was born in Toronto) when who would ever have expected such an epic game

Dodgers, take and early lead only to have the Jays go ahead by several runs on a home run. A few innings later the game was tied at 5-5 and stayed that way until about midnight when the king of walk off home runs (Freeman for the Dodgers) ends it in the bottom of the 18th inning with another walk off home run. A record. number of pitchers in the game as well as the number of baseballs used.

Ohtani to my eyes will prove to be the greatest baseball player the league has ever seen. I dont think I have ever seen him hit a balll into the infield. Several more crushing deep home runs makes this man something to watch. A perfect stance at the plate and his mechanics of his swings are a thing of beauty. This was followed by 4 intentional walks.

The game lasted over 7 hours and these guys were totally drained and have game 4 tonight at Dodger Stadium. If Jays dont win this one the series is all but over and Dodger will win back to back World Series

My recording of the game ended after 4.5 hours, but when it ended only missed about an inning and a half (if I recall it was bottom of 12th, live broadcast was top of 14th, so i think I missed the bases full 2-out defense that stopped that rally. But man-oh-man there were some defensive plays that were spectacular. And the bull-pens were both astonishing, particularly the Dodger’s guy (Will Klein) who wasn't even on the roster to start the post season (or was it the series?) who hadn’t thrown 30 pitches total in relief comes in to throw 4 scoreless innings and 70 pitches.

A game for the ages. A bit long for sure @ 6hrs, 39minutes. A double-header in a single game with over 9 innings of scoreless baseball.

It went 18 innings

They even had a 14 inning stretch for the fans

Truly an epic game

It'll be like playing 3 games in 2 nights. They will be drained

I watched the entire game, long night........

went to bed after the 13th inning.....quite the game.

Mariner's<->Detroit went 15 innings on the 'loser out' game 5 and the Mariner's pitching staff never recovered. it's likely that was the primary cause of losing to Toronto. last night's game was epic for sure, but i think since that Mariner<->Detroit game was series ending it was more dramatic.

I got two games for the price of one!

Ohtani is amazing.
We turned in after the bottom of the sixteenth. My wife swears it was the first time she's watched more than a single inning of a ball game since I played high school baseball. I think she's right!

Jays played a terrific game last night and evened the series as they beat up on the Dodgers with a 6-2 win and Ohtani was the losing pitcher. Ion spite of the loss the guy is truly a joy to watch. IMO he will go down as the GOAT in MLB

5th game tonight before they head back to Toronto. Dodgers are always perennial favorites like the Yankees in the AL but the Jays team has a lot of heart and they never quit. They are like the Little Train Who Thought It Could"

the one rule in baseballs that I totally agree with and I only learned about last night was the Ohtani rule which makes no sense as IMO it wont ever apply to another player. Normally when a player comes out of the game, he's out ......period

However with Ohtani being the pitcher and also the DH, removing him as pitcher does not remove him from the game as DH.

How the league ever agreed with that one bogles my mind

The "Ohtani rule" is a Major League Baseball (MLB) rule implemented in 2022 that allows a starting pitcher who also starts as the designated hitter (DH) to remain in the game as the DH even after being removed as the pitcher. This enables a two-way player like Shohei Ohtani to continue hitting even after they've finished their pitching duties, a change from the old rule where a pitcher who left the mound could no longer bat.

How it works: A team's manager lists the starting pitcher twice on the lineup card, once as the pitcher and once as the DH. When the pitcher is replaced on the mound, he can continue as the DH, but he can no longer pitch. Conversely, if the DH is replaced, he can continue as the pitcher but can no longer bat for himself.

What it replaced: Previously, if a starting pitcher left the game, his spot in the batting order was forfeited, and any replacement pitcher had to bat in the pitcher's spot.

Why it's significant: The rule was created with Shohei Ohtani in mind to accommodate his unique two-way talent, as he was baseball's only consistent two-way player. It allows him to remain in the lineup as a hitter for the entire game, even after being relieved of his pitching duties, which is a significant strategic advantage
