I don't usually make posts like this...

Blumine is a tone poem that was the original second movement in Mahler's 1st Symphony. He removed it after only three performances. It features a gorgeous trumpet melody and a melancholy oboe. Wiki says 'Blumine' is a German word meaning Godess of Flowers.

I ran across the following video of a peformance of Blumine standalone and outdoors. What stuck me was at the very outset you see the conductor, Roland Böer, with a sparkler in his left hand. And later the audience with the same..

And this music was lost after 1894, until a manuscript was sold in 1966 that was a copy of the first symphony as performed in Hamburg in 1894. It was performed again for the first time since then in 1967 at the Aldeburgh Festival under Benjamin Britten.
