Here's Fred Kaplan's list:

1. Jason Moran, Ten (Blue Note).
2. Keith Jarrett & Charlie Haden, Jasmine (ECM)*
3. Geri Allen, Flying Toward the Sound (Motema)*
4. Dave Douglas, Spark of Being (Greenleaf)
5. Fred Hersch, Whirl (Palmetto)*
6. Henry Threadgill, This Brings Us to Vol. 2 (Pi)
7. Ted Nash, Portraits in Seven Shades (LCJO)
8. The Bad Plus, Never Stop (E-One)
9. Anat Fort, And If (ECM)*
10. John Zorn’s Masada String Trio, Haborym: The Book of Angels, Vol. 16 (Tzadik)

I agree with these *, what's your take/additions?

Guess we don't have a lot of Jazz fans on this forum.

One recording I'd add to Fred's list is Charles Lloyd's Mirror on ECM.

When I'm 72, I hope that I still have Mr. Lloyd’s spirit of adventure and discovery.

Dan

PS- IMO, ECM always = great music/great recordings.

I think we do actually. However, music takes a backseat to gear. Keep posting though, because I'd love to see more of a balance in that regard.

I love Jazz, but admittedly am not very knowledgeable on the genre, so I hesitate to post in the Jazz threads that come up. I do always read through them in the hope that I learn or discover something new (for me).

John-

Suggest you get a subscription to Jazziz, which includes sampler CDs.

It will introduce you to a lot of great music and the artists.

A few 2010 releases I've enjoyed:

Evan Christopher 'Remember Song'
Dave Bass 'Gone'
Jeremy Pelt 'Men of Honor'
Anat Cohen 'Clarinet Work - Live At The Village Vanguard'

As far as reissues, MusicMatters continued their extraordinary Blue Note reissue series. All of them are terrific. My favorites this year:

Wayne Shorter 'Night Dreamer'
Thad Jones 'The Magnificent Thad Jones' (mono)

An end year release that is superb:
Ella & Duke at Cote D'Azur, Mosaic Records, MRLP 3002 (3 record set)
