The fact that you can’t change inputs without the remote would be a show stopper for me if I was shopping in this price range. If the remote quits working or you lose it, you are screwed. I find that odd.

I can see why that might be an issue, but you should know the remote is made in large quantities by a company in upstate NY. It is the same remote used by Benchmark for the DAC1 HDR.
