Antipodes Oladra vs K50 vs Pink Faun Scion?

Additionally, based on my recent experience, using a great server is no less dramatic than upgrading your DAC - it can transform your current digital setup into a remarkably more refined and engaging listening experience with improved detail retrieval, soundstage width, and overall musical coherence.
My experience with Antipodes and hearing the impact of a friend’s Taiko Extreme turned me into a “source first” believer.

Thank you all for your replies.

My asking about the Scion to Oladra was more about price point. (Scion once upgraded $25k to Oladra's $29k).

I think I am going to see if I can find a used Ultra 2.16, as that seems to be the best bang for the buck. I remembered I had a Lumin X1 in a system that I was not using, and tried swapping my NDX2 and ND555, but I did like the presentation of the Naim better. Just seemed more natural. I would assume the same would be from the ND555 to the Ultra 2.16, as it just gets a bit better.

I wish there was a big audio showroom locally that the people weren't such jerks.

Going with the oladra. Seems to be the objective best overall for the money. We will see, I'll post once I have done listening time.
I listened to several DACs in my system. In my system, going from the Antipodes K21/K41 combination to the Oladra is more significant of an improvement than any DAC that I've listened to. I don't want to exaggerate, but the Oladra is 3-dimensional(great spacing), detailed without brightness, and has great tonality. Despite the cost, along with adding subwoofers, it's one of the better audio purchases for my system.

Thank you for the feedback. I am greatly looking forward to hearing it. I have read so much hype about it, hoping its all true!

How easy do you find the OS to be? I have read mixed reviews on it but it doesnt seem terrible. Any sonic differences between Roon, Squeeze, and HQ Player?

Congratulations on choosing the Olandra, you won’t be disappointed with Antipodes. Their direct service help is on another industry level.
If you don’t already know, Antipodes has its own forum through their website.
Here you’ll find a plethora of entries and advice regarding your query and the genuine expertise from fellow members is great.

I second the recommendation above about Antipodes own forum. Lots of interesting observations shared.

My own opinion is that 1) the OS is intuitive and super simple to use and 2) Squeeze is easily the best sounding option.

Roon has the best UX so I use it for musical discovery. I use Squeeze for playing music that’s already in my library.

Has anyone compared the Wadax Studio Player to the Antipodes Oladra?

Hi Kenny, I too am a 'source first' person and to that end I have gone even further, I also often use an Oladra in my main systems and even though the Oladra is that good I have found that adding a Waversa SmartHub and Reference Plus Mk2 LAN filter before it with 3 Vertere HB Plus LAN cables greatly improves the SQ to a level that has to be heard to be truly believed.

Furthermore I have recently replaced a Plixir Elite PSU with Statement cables supplying power to our Internet providers router and the switch connected after it to a Plixir Statement 12v PSU and the improvement in SQ was another big jump up. But replacing the PSU to the internet providers box didn't just improve Hifi SQ the picture quality that we get through AppleTV is much much better as is the audio through that that system.

Even before the Plixir upgrade the SQ I was getting from streaming with the Waversa/Vertere upgrade located before the server had easily made streaming sound quality far higher than using a HD. To compare if I take the Waversa/Vertere combo out then streaming through the Oladra, is a close second to playing music through a SSD in the Oladra, add the Waversa/Vertere combo and streaming easily steps quite a way in front.

With an Oladra or K50 I use both Tidal and Qobuz through Roon and I actually prefer HD Player over Squeeze, having said that I have compared the Waversa/Vertere combination not only with various Antipodes servers but also various Linn, Naim and Grimm music servers and in each case improving the source before the Server greatly improves SQ, so getting even closer to the source is a good thing.

cheers,
Terry

I just recently upgraded to a better switch, the Network Acoustic tempus. This along with the switch to QSA Lanedri Discovery Veridian Ethernet cable has improved “the SQ to a level that has to be heard to be truly believed.”

I haven’t taken it as far, but experiences similar results from powering my router with an iFi iPower Elite. That was mind blowing given the distance from my audio system.

While I haven’t tried this DC extension cable yet, I do have a pair of their earlier Gamma Infinity DC extension cables. These brought a significant improvement when used to feed my router and switch. I expect an even bigger bang for the buck with the Discovery Veridian. I would highly recommend auditioning one of these once they are available.

Not too long ago I would have been skeptical of this statement but I now wholeheartedly agree.
