Android Market to hit 10 Billion Dowloads

These are incredible numbers any way to slice it. Making apps small, easy to install and cheap has heavily accelerated the pace of adoption by consumers.

Yeah quite incredible and is very promising in various ways for Google.
Only wonder if this is now becoming very tempting to identify and exploit security holes with viruses,etc - if at all possible but then we never know until it is done-tried vigorously.

On security bit, we will surely get hit with some big ones. But the good news there is that unlike distribution of software on the Internet for the PC, there is a central authority here that can immediately remove the only source of downloads and install future measures against it. Sadly, Google is not very good at this but they will learn over time.

Not a heavy user of "apps" myself .. increasingly finding them more appropriate than usual "software" packages ... There is a trend toward simplicity in the Smartphone/tablet world that regular PC software haven't matched ... I would like to see better input devices for smatphones .. trying to type on these screens is annoying and inefficient

I have been experimenting with voice control on my iPhone 4S and things have come a long way since I tried Dragon Naturally Speaking 12 years ago. The challenge is punctuation - the apps I've seen (integrated into the phone, Vlingo and Dragon) seem to be quite accurate, at least for short string text messages and as long as you enunciate and speak deliberately.
