I’ve been planning to add a pair of floor standing speakers and a center speaker to my Rythmik F12 subs to build a 3.1 system with my Sony 65” A80L OLED TV, Windows 10 pc and internal LG BD drive. While currently playing titles from my large DVD and BD movie collection via my pair of Oppo UDP-203 BD players-and get their audio from the TV’s internal speakers-my plan is to switch to using my pc’s BD drive to play movies via JRiver, and have it route 3.1 audio via CAT cable to this DAC. https://www.merging.com/products/interfaces/hapi to feed the power amps driving the three speakers. While having to substitute the convenience of the excellent Oppo wireless remote for a wireless Logitech keyboard for transport control of JRiver, I’m not expecting any other issues with this audio system.

Meanwhile, I was late hearing this troubling news. https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1746788660

While I wouldn’t expect my pc’s BD drive to die anytime soon, and could stock up on a couple of the best internal models still available, standalone BD players will certainly remain in production for as long as the major studios and/or cinephile brands like Criterion, Kino, Arrow Films, Cult Films, ShoutFactory and others keep pressing BDs. Thus, being able to access 3.1 audio via HDMI directly from my Oppo player to feed my multichannel DAC via CAT cable-or to feed audio to my pc via CAT, USB, HDMI, DisplayPort or some other multichannel audio direct digital connectivity format output-would likely be the best way to future proof my home theater audio system.

But does such a direct digital to digital audio interface and connectivity exist to do this? If so how hard to configure and install it?
