We rented a nearly brand new 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4 Door for a trip through rural Western North Carolina. Tinka wanted to try one.
I rented the prior generation of Jeep four-door a couple of times before, and I found it pretty miserable on the highway: tire noise, windshield wind roar, axle angst, very floaty above 80mph and wheezing engine while going up hills.
The new generation of Jeep 4 door somehow solved these problems even though it retains the same axles. The car was much smoother on the highway and felt much more like a pretty decent crossover than an older jeep. This Jeep Wrangler felt more stable and less floaty than a Subaru Outback above 80mph.
We did some off-roading and it is really cool to be able to select full-time four-wheel-drive. (Although I still think the Subaru’s AWD system is much more sophisticated than the Jeep’s fixed torque split with the standard Command-Trac in 4H.)
Overall the new generation is a really great car! We both want a 2019 Jeep MOAB!
