    H.P. has passed.

A giant is gone. I did not know him personally but the loss I felt was acute. He brought music and high end audio into my life. I have valued his reviews since issue one of TAS. Golden ears and literary skills to match. The audio community is diminished by his death. He will be missed.

Any chance Spectral will bring out a new preamp with phono stage?

As an owner of a Model DMC 20 preamp which includes a phono stage I would be interested in a new Spectral preamp with a phono stage built in. I love what I have but would like to upgrade if only they still made such a device.

    Hot Pressings

I agree with the above quote. When I read the Garylkoh review I went to order the lp but then realized I already had purchased it when Fremer reviewed it. It was just a forgettable album but it is well recorded and if I give a few more listens I may warm up to the interpretations. Stanley is no...

What is new in my music library? (recent purchases I enjoy)

I should have listened to a cut before buying it. My bad.

What is new in my music library? (recent purchases I enjoy)

Unpleasant distorted electric guitar. Why pay big bucks to put together an audio system to listen to distorted music?

Electric Light Syndrone -Beware distorted electric guitar. My least favorite rock if you can call it that. Closer to jazz.

Lucia from La Scala Lucia on Mercury was released in cooperation with G. Recordi & C. Milano at La Scala. I can take a photo of the cover and label and send it to you. Comment on your list (Astor): I have most of your recommendations and find it interesting how few of the classical are by the...

Classical: Lucia. Donizetti. Mercury SR2-9008 great performance and recording. Explosive dynamics and amazing sound stage. Side 1 is a great test record. Rest of Mercury operas not up to the same high standard. Beethoven Brendel sonata no. 31 & 32. Turnabout. TVS 34393. Most copies have...

    Beethoven ninth shoot out

I did not include RBCDs in my survey although I have many including the Harnoncourt and the Hogwood. The reason being that I do not consider RBCDs capable of high resolution reproduction at least not on my system. I did pull out the Harnocourt for a listen. Nice performance but a definite...

    Beethoven ninth shoot out

This my favorite piece of music. Difficult to record and perform. The 4th movement is the part of the symphony I love the most and used for this shoot out. I have 10 vinyl and 3 SACD versions. Congestion, lack of deep bass and loss of a sound stage are what separate the men from the boys in...

    Analogue Productions Living Stereo Releases...

I have listened to five releases. Excellent pressings and packaging. Dynamics and bass definition usually improved over the original pressings and frequently over the Classic (33, 45) and Chesky reissues. An American in Paris is a special case. Never the best recording in my opinion but this...

    TAS Reviews the Summit X

Compare ML Summit X to Sanders Model 10 In the TAS review Olsher states that the ML X is the" best sounding hybrid ESL in the world". Pearson made similar statements about Sander Model 10 hybrid. Do Harry and Dick talk to each other? Have they compared the two speakers? They look very similar.
