Building a system around ROON for local/ripped/downloaded files and making it better than CD playback...

My main points for a Roon System: 1) some “computer” running Roon Core. I happen to use a headless NUC upon which I installed the free ROCK operating system. One could also just use your desktop or laptop for this purpose, and perhaps not be editing large video files while doing critical...

How Important Is NOS In A Dac?

Big purchase like that deserves a listen. Demo from dealer, or go to a show where one is being shown in a system. I say that in a positive way. I have the first holo audio spring KTE.version. While it’s but an ancestor to the May, the flavor is there. Yet the MSB Premier is much better. Worth...

Building a system around ROON for local/ripped/downloaded files and making it better than CD playback...

I have great results from my chain. 1) cable modem + ROCK on fanless NUC plugged into switch run by EdgeLite router. 2) Fiber Ethernet to UpTone Audio etherRegen 3) Triode WireLabs Ethernet cable 4) DAC with built in streamer (was Bricasti, now MSB Premier) After a while with an ultraRendu...

    Your "secondary" living room system

My secondary system is a Sonos system with several in-wall speaker sets. There is a nicer set of KEF bookstanders, with a sub, in the Den area, fed by a Sonos AMP. The 5.1 TV watching is separate, based on a Pioneer receiver. My wife can use Sonos, and listens a lot. She does like my system though.

    Lampi Big 7 part needed.

Choke 110 Henries of inductance. 5 kOhm resistance, 20 milli amp preliminary google was not helpful, but the Lampizator company is not in USA. Custom part, vs European supplier. Either get help from Lampi, or find a local electronic technician to fix your power supply.

    Gallium Nitride Class D Amplifiers

I chose Atma-Sphere ”Class D” monoblocks ($5,400 for the pair IIRC) they were designed, and built, by a veteran in the OTL tube amp arena. Ralph designed a novel circuit, and fronted it with a standard linear power supply. The amps are 12-14 pounds each, and accept RCA and XLR inputs. There are...

    MSB with external preamp.

I currently use my MSB Premier DAC through a ModWright LS300 pre-amp to Atma-Sphere Class D monoblock amplifiers. Quite divine. Also allows use of turntable + phono pre. i do use the MSB in fixed output mode. That might change as my life changes, but it sounds so good now.

MSB Premier vs Holo Audio May KTE

Agree with not dry, and sterile. Comparing to Holo Audio Spring KTE (first one) and Bricasti M12. MSB Premier DAC is superior in detail, imaging, fullness, and emotion.

Passive Pre between MSB Premier and MSB S202 amp?

I was informed by MSB the Premier Headphone amplifier had issues with over voltage from some pre-amps. Specifically that my ModWright LS300 could provide enough voltage to fry an expensive part in the Premier Headphone amplifier. For me, it will come down to a simple decision. When I downsize...

Passive Pre between MSB Premier and MSB S202 amp?

I do currently use a preamp between my MSB Premier DAC and Atma-Sphere Class D monoblocks, using XLR connections. The Boulder 508 phono is connected similarly. As I use a balanced tubed pre-amp, and not MSB, amps means I can’t directly answer your question. My current system relit’s on the...

The Digital Director - A new MSB product improving everything from the source to the output

I emailed MSB about this question. I’m loving my MSB Premier DAC. I use Renderer v2 for Roon, using a NUC running ROCK in the server room. (OK the upper shelf in my wife’s closet where the cable modem and router/switch are already) I also use TOSLink from my TV for video watching, and the RCA...
