Devore uses 300b and 211 amplifiers. I've heard them sound lovely with both of those tubes as well as the el84, F2a and el34's. In short, they sound lovely with good amplifiers.
One of the interesting challenges for us as we upgrade components is to do so in a manner where these upgrades, for better or worse, are identifiable to a particular component. A cursory review of the thread indicates you have a couple of changes going at the same time and it can be anxst...
I have a MU1 and I'm not at home so I am going off of memory. Have you set your default volume to -8db or whatever it is you've decided is proper? I know there are some boxes to check for the upsampling which allow you to choose no, 2fs, 4fs and I believe the MU2 has 8fs. I dont recall if the...
Do you have other tubes? That's an easy thing to check. I'm glad you have the settings properly set now and I'm certain you will get things sorted on the tube front. Are your Roon settings for the MU2 properly set for the Major Dac? On the MU2 have you set it for the 8fs and 3db headroom setting?
What follows is pure conjecture because, (A) I am no expert, only a hobbyist like many here and, (B) I wish I could say that I've not been befuddled in the past trying to chase down a similar issue. So, here goes...
First, I wouldn't worry about the proximity of the rca jacks to the IEC. Easy...
Is there any chance you are overloading the inputs? In other words, is there a volume level for the MU2 output where the "crispiness" is absent? Into an integrated, you may need more volume on the integrated side of the equation and less volume on the MU2 side of the equation. Your Trafo...
You may have mentioned this in another post so my apologies if so. What is the rest of your system, specifically are you feeding the inputs of a preamp, integrated or are you feeding amplifier direct? XLR or RCA?
Playing through Roon from a streaming service or playing through Roon from a file on the internal disk of the MU1? I've never had one hiccup when playing a locally stored file.
Skips, etc are not in my opinion a Roon thing or a Grimm thing, they are a home networking thing. When I'm conducting a listening comparison, I use the Qobuz track and compare it to a local track of the same recording. I've not once experienced a skip or any issue with a local track.

In his ad, he praised the sound quality of the MU2 and expressed the Roon user interface wasn't a good fit for him/her. I guess we are all different...I have not seriously considered some really exceptional gear in the past, like Aurender...
Since neither you nor anyone else has heard the Cascade, then your posts are misleading, disingenuous and intended merely to create/keep brand awareness and get your name out there for a business reason.
I’ll be as kind as I can be with the fiollowing comment: I heard your speakers at the...
I certainly didnt mean to step on any toes…just posting my observations that the best two (3 if you count a brief encounter with the Antipodes Oladra flgship) server/streamers I’ve heard personally both utilized Roon. Perhaps its not that they “settled” for Roon, perhaps they optimized their...
I too owned Innuos and I too preferred Innuos Sense for sound quality. I'm going to ask you a rhetorical question...since you prefer Sense on your Innuos, what objective data led you to the conclusion that the cause was Roon? Why would that be applicable to how Grimm Audio utilizes Roon? There...
Some free advice and certainly worth far less than that, seek out a dealer or audio club in your area to inquire if you may borrow some of these devices to try in your system to determine if you have the kinds of problems they were designed to address. For instance, how can someone in Estonia...
What power or ethernet problem have you identified that requires addressing? Does your new gear sound the same, better or worse compared to when you demo’d and purchased?
@PYP The Singxer is a fine bandaid but not a top shelf solution. I used several iterations and they did a fine job when I was handcuffed to USB out but also handcuffed at the time to AES in. Its a great device to convert USB to other spdif formats (AES being the one I relied upon). Im not...
I’m not trying to cause anyone heartburn, but the USB port on the MU1 is unsuitable IMO to stream from. USB “decrappifiers” do a decent job and depending on the level of a system, that may be fine for some. One of the things that drew me to the MU1 was an optimized digital stream without the...
Listen guys, I’m a Grimm MU1 early adopter and LOVE the Grimm. The USB output on both the MU1 and MU2 are the equivalent of those found on the least capable computer found at Best Buy. Its a weakness and if Hans B is going to use it to review digital gear, discount the validity of those reviews.
A fine review, especially given that reviewers (and most audiophiles) eschew all in one products. Its unlikely that a piece like the MU2 will find a long-term home in Punter’s rotation. There is one glaring omission in the MU2: digital outputs.
Between a DCS dac and my Audio Note Jinro I have tried Audio Note ISIS (w/P connectors), Auditorium 23, Shindo (silver), Audience AU24 and Audioquest Thunderbird. I still own all of the aforementioned interconnects and I prefer (in order of preference) the Thunderbirds, Shindo, ISIS, A23 and...
Those tubes are becoming challenging to find a nice matched pair. NOS/WWII era GE's and RCA's are great too and Audio Note's new production(made to order by PSVane) 4242e's are also quite good. Search out a dealer with a Jinro, you won't be sorry. Where are you located? Mike Kay of Ardio Archon...
Indeed. For an integrated at a far lower pricepoint, I have enjoyed the Leben CS600x. It has a few features that some may/may not desire but it is a terrific amp with the right speakers. For amp only comparisons, I have a pair of Shindo Corton-Charlemagne el34 monoblocks which I find far more to...
Biasing a 211 tube amp isnt a big deal unless you happen to be scared of ~ 1,000 volts. LOL.
If you buy an Ongaku though, chances are you have some extra Flexjet credits for your amp technician to fly in/out for a quick bias. NOS tubes are readily available, they just cost more than they used...
I don't believe there is a need for a preamp with the Jinro or Ongaku.
I am aware of someone who uses a highly regarded vacuum tube pre with his. Again, he uses the pre for the high quality phono stage and he enjoys the effect that his preamp has on his digital source. He also rationalizes the...
