So I traded the A5’s for a pair of B&W 801D4’s they had been siting in the boxes for the last 5 months while we finished the remodel on the Lake Home. Finally got them set up and WOW is all I have to say couldn’t be happier.
Some are no longer dealers. Talked with a dealer today that can get me a pair by July. Done deal.
taking a absolute ponding on the Magico’s but that’s all my fault. All is well that ends well.
Did B&W discontinue the 801D4’s. I’m looking for a set. How can I inquire a pair. I just traded my 801N’s for a set of Magico A5’s touted as the absolute best speaker ever made. I just can’t live with them. For me they are completely over rated and unlistenable. Soon as will be up for sale.
any...
I have them connected to the 4 ohm posts on the Amps now. The B&W‘s were 8 ohm. I didn’t think it was a good idea to connect a 4 ohm speaker to say the 2 ohm side I was always under the impression that it could damage the speake?
as others have suggested maybe it’s a electrical problem from the...
Agreed on the 10 gauge wire and dedicated Circuit.
My other home has that. I did it a few weeks after I purchased it.
This one is a little more challenging to accomplish. Guys at The Audio store where I picked the 611’s said I didn’t need it.
I had a set of none ported years ago Infinity’s I...
What I’m gathering from a lot of the responses here is that the Magico A5 is a superior speaker over my old B&W’s. I guess that is a fact period. I think I’m just experiencing some unique problems
The home I have them in has a fireplace in the main level living area making optimal placement...
One last thing I would like to say about your comment. Not really being people that study Audio at the level most members here do. We have learned some things about our selves, me and my wife that is. I built hotroddin for years and I know some people could care less about old cars, I figured...
Wow! Man I really appreciate your summation you are on point. I agree with your assessment of the 801. believe me when I say I didn’t think they were a perfect speaker by any means. Some poorer recorded music was almost unlistenable on the 801 and much better on the A5 for sure. Musically the A5...
i Appreciate your comments and the advice here. I have moved them around to see how much effect it had. Funny that’s why the photo was without the spikes, easier to move. I have the spikes on now. As for the alcove as you put it. Lake homes in Northern Michigan are very hard to come by...
I would agree on placement in our primary home we have a large room for Audio set up perfect. this home has smaller rooms being a 4 bed @ 2400 square feet.
moving the speakers out into the room more is not really a option for my wife…LOL.
While I have a tendency to listen to all types of Music...
I didn’t really want to get into this because my current speaker is a B&W but yes I understand portended vs sealed. I owned a pair of Infinity sealed speakers they bought some time in the 90’s. funny thing is I had them in storage until recently, gave them a quick listen for the first time in...
My apologies I have two pages of venders and contractors I’m dealing with as I’m in the middle of remodel and new construction here. I purchased some other audio gear, AV for another room. I did purchase from Precision Audio. And yes the were New. Serial #000629 and 630.
Not much air or sense of space. like I said my wife who knows very little about audio other than what she likes. “The 801n’s sounded like a live concert, these just sound like ok speakers“ she walked out of the room and didn’t even listen.
The 801 had massive bass and a huge presence. The worst...
Rhapsody,
I agree on the spikes. That makes some difference. hopefully improve efficiency buy at least 40%. I think you really helped me make my mind up to trade these thing off. Or I guess I can sell the house…LOL
the house has corners for sure. My 801N’s performed beautifully in the exact same...
Thanks ICUToo:
I guess I just need to keep the faith. I have been playing them as much as possible at high volume. They are working my MC611’s to death to get any volume out of them. hopefully the efficiency improves. I have already thought of adding a Sub if I have to. I can’t live with the...
I understand speaker placement. However that said it’s not always aesthetically pleasing to move the speakers out I the room. That was the reason for the purchase in the first place.
I had replaced the 801n’s with something new at my primary home so I brought the 801’s up to my lake home. They...
Just traded my B&W 801N’s for a set of Magico A5’s. It’s so bad in comparison. Not even in the same league. I can’t believe these speakers cost what they do. Sounds more like a $6k speaker not $25k. I’m absolutely devastated. Wish I had my 801’s back.
funny thing is when I purchased the 801’s...
