Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Great story! Thanks for sharing. I'm a big fan too of the Tele RGN2004 rectifier in the Lampi's conductor's seat (as i call it) and Laslzo's TP adapters. The F2A output tube is no wilting flower with 2 amps across its filament. Enjoy!

Tung-Sol KT170 - Matched Quad, Very Lightly Used

Hello my What's Best Fellows. I'm selling my spare matched quad of KT170 tubes and they are being offered in Canadian dollarettes, so they may be attractive for you Americans who have real currency. I am now replete with power tubes for my Horizon DAC and it's time this set is put to good use...

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Thanks for the additional info. Yes, SET is more “noisy” relative to SS, but in SE it should be even-order harmonics (i.e. distortion that is more pleasing to human ears than other forms of inherent distortion).

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Hi Highstream! Sorry for the tardy reply. I've been offline for a while. I do have a suggestion, but you may not like it. I suggest you take the PS Audio Regenerator out of the power circuit (i.e. disconnect your GG 2/3 from it and even your preamp). PS Audio does some unsual (i.e...

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

I have no doubt that Dave makes an awesome cable and I did not intend to suggest otherwise by my comments. They look very well made. So glad to hear the latest elements in your system are synergizing and blooming in place. It's always satisfying when a plan comes together with good results...

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Hello Highstream. Laszlo does use a braided cover from what I can see and it looks like he terminates the braiding at the spaded end. However, I have have not confirmed that with him. Based on the obsessive and detailed design of his TP adapters (relative to other offerings in the market), I...

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Interesting experiential input. Thank you. Always appreciated. My experience with the Telefunken black mesh RGN2004 Klangfilm in the rectifier seat of my Horizon is that it added more tube warmth, air and body without loss of dynamics and an accurate transient response compared to other...

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

I'm a big fan of fully balanced as well (at least in amplifiers). The stage has a lower noise floor and better channel separation because the amplifier circuits for left and right are completely separate in a balanced design and there is not a common negative circuit like there is in single...

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Thanks. The Horizon uses pentodes in the output buffer circuit. Pentodes create mostly 3rd order harmonics. I think the Poseidon's output buffer is compatible with triode and pentode tubes. As I recall, the Pacific DAC uses Triodes in either a balanced or SE. Ray

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Hello my What's Best Fellows. I'm asking the following question in this thread because I couldn't find a technical forum on the Horizon DAC and because I consider many of you to be technically strong audiophiles (certainly more expert than I am). Of course, I would invite Lukasz' input as the...

Anyone have impressions of Lampizator Horizon vs. Pacific ?

Thanks for the update. That's great!! Have fun being immersed in the sonic joys of your Pacific 2.

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

The Tele ec8020 is truly a one of a kind design. The Picasso of small signal high transconductance tubes. Do you use a pair or two pair (like the C3g)?

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

Hi folks. The post about my repaired Horizon DAC drew a response as opposed to an answer. I have consequently removed it. I have always been and remain a fan of Lampizator and its products. My comment of "when and not if" was based on "my" understanding of the supplier defect, but Lukasz...

LampizatOr Horizon - Tube Rolling Paradise

I have only compared the Tele G2504/WE56 to the Tele RGN2004/WE52 and preferred the later. The Tele G2504 is a good performer, but like the Valvo WE56 equivalent, its has a 2.5A filament. I have found that my SFR P17C "output" tubes respond better with the 2.0A filament of the RGN2004. In...

    274B choices?

Hi Gene. Sorry for my tardy reply. I've been in Edmonton moving my brother into a extended care home. The difference between the Tele RGN2004 "black" mesh compared to the "silver" mesh version is the former is a bit "warmer" (e.g. fuller/more musically dense w/a tad more inner tonal detail)...

Hi Carlsbad. Just catching up on my WBF threads. So glad you’ve been enjoying the Ken-Rad CKR 5U4G in the conductor seat of your Lampi. I’ve got so many wonderful insights from the WBF community I’m glad to pay it forward. All the best of the New Year, Ray

Lampizator announcement: launch of our all new TOTL HORIZON DAC

I avoid turning on my Horizon unless I have a 3 - 5 hour listening window and I don't leave it on over night for the same reasons mentioned by others. However, I find that it takes about an hour of play before it comes into its own fully. Ray

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Hi. I'm not familiar with the PT14. Is it an equivalent to an EL34/6L6? I look forward to your findings. This is a great sharing community. Keep enjoying that GG 2/3. I'm sure it sounds great! Ray

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Thanks Gene. So the1939 RGN1064 has 4V filament rated at 1A. The 1944 AZ1 cathode is rated at 1.1A. If my theory holds, on which I would defer to Lukasz, those rectifier tubes would pair nicely with lower wattage pentodes. Based on my Horizon trials, the KT170 (85W) sounded thinner and...

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Was the 1950 Telefunken a true AZ1/WE54/WE55? If it was manufactured in the 50s, then it was more likely a AZ4/WE56 tube. The filament current of the AZ1 (circa 1930) is 1.1 amperes, which may explain it's warmth relative to a 1950 Telefunken rectifier tube. If the 1950 tube is an AZ4, then...

    274B choices?

Hi. The "CKR" was the manufacturer code used by the US military procurement group. "JAN" stood for Joint Army Navy. You can see that on my spare Ken Rad 5U4G (pic below). If a tube was spec'd and procured directly for the Navy, then it was stamped US NAVY (like the K-R 5U4G I used and tested in...

I have moved on too. I was able to sell my Berlins (at a significant discount) and the buyer is very happy with them. He has custom low wattage SET monos and a pair of subs, which should work nicely with the Berlins. David's specs on the Berlins were clearly off. I consider myself lucky...

    E80cc comparison

One further apparent factoid regarding E80CC production coding. The "D" stamped on the bottom is the symbol for the Hamburg factory. The number "4" is the code for the Philips Heerlen factory. If the tube bottom is also etched with "WK2", then it is early production (circa, pre -1960s) Apart...

I'll share with you what my research of the E80CC uncovered. The Valvo Red Label, O-Getter from the VB8series or WK6, was indeed made by Philips, Herleen. It too was the "pinched" waist type. The Valvo E80CC with the Flat Foil D Getter, Pinched Waist, with the WK2 D61 codes etched on the...
