I wouldn't worry about the 96k, it that's the only thing keeping you from buying a MiniDSP.
I've got lots of experience with this stuff, and if your setup automatically converts everything above 96k to 96k, I don't think you will hear a difference.
The room correction makes a huge difference...
It may take time to them setup how you like them and also to get them setup for music.
Can you adjust the programming in your model? Music sounds best if you reduce the processing as much as possible, for instance reducing the attempt of the aid to adjust the sound focus, add noise reduction...
A lot of users like Widex for music.
But there is no one best aid/company for everyone. You may have to try several models till you are happy. The audiologist also makes a difference. If you can find one that has experience working with musicians or audiophiles that can help.
I have one of...
They claim to be correcting "blurring" which they say is timing errors. But they never clearly defined what the deblurring actually is, nor did they ever show proof it actually does what they claim. It was all based on their descriptions and claims, and them saying "trust us".
In fact, third...
Yeah, but it's all BS. Their system doesn't in the end do anything special.
You can turn 24 bit flac masters into dithered 18/96 flac and it is no larger than an MQA file - more or less the same resolution and essentially sounds identical to the master - pretty much no actual audible material is...
Bruce, sorry if this has been answered before, but the thread is long and I didn't find the answer. When you wrote:
Are you also saying a Sonoma rip from an SACD is sonically superior to a PS3 rip of the same SACD?
Mytek volume modes:
Analog: turning volume knob engages analog volume control (1db steps)
Digital: volume knob engages digital volume control (1db steps)
Preamp Bypass: no volume control, set output (like a DAC with no volume attenuator)
Volume trim: you can change volume level (max) from -18db...
Hi-
Go to the Mytek download page: http://mytekdigital.com/download_library/index.htm
Download the driver package: http://mytekdigital.com/download_library/Mytek_Stereo192-DSD_DAC_firmware-driver-software_install_package_current_May_30_2012.zip
There's a pdf inside with step by step...
It has a volume control that can be engaged or disengaged (DAC only mode); you can use either digital or analog attenuation. The "preamp" model also has one set of RCA analogue inputs so it can be used to input an analogue source.
I listened to the PS Audio PWD and the M2Tech Young. Thought...
If anyone wants to order one of these, I suggest you order it online direct from Mytek. You get the newest model with the updated HW tweaks and firmware, and the waiting period isn't long. Shipping varies from a few days to a couple of weeks.
I got one a few months ago and am very happy with...
My understanding is that it converts DSD directly to analog without going through PCM. That is sort of the point. It's not just the ESS chip, the rest of the unit has to be designed to work with DSD also.
The chips that do DSD are plentiful, the dacs designed to enable this function are few...
I recently got the Mytek and think it is a very accurate, clean sounding DAC - not clinical or harsh. Quite a good sound, unless you want your equipment to color the sound.
If you have a lot of DSD files, it seems like the way to go. But it depends a bit on your preamp. I think the pre on the...
Just downloaded the 24/96 version. Sounds very good. I own the 70's LP and the 1998 CD, and this sounds better - you can hear more detail and each instrument more clearly.
On computeraudiophile.com it was stated that Bruce Brown did the digital version from the analogue master tapes. If so...
not really
The product is "intended" to be used with any PC or MAC /DAC combo that the user wishes to bridge between Computer USB and DAC SPDIF. Use of BADA DAC is optional.
Got a copy of Paul Simon's "So Beautiful or So What".
Good album.
Will never listen to it again.
Why? Extreme volume compression. So much so that it literally gives me a headache after about 2 minutes of listening.
Using Foobar Dynamic Range tool, I find it has a dynamic range...
De-Compression.
Came across a sound professional who took his CD of McCartney's "Memory Almost Full" and did what he called "reverse compression". He gave me a copy. The original was so compressed it hurt my head after about 30 seconds. Acc'd to one tool I have, it had a Dynamic range of about...
