I have similar feelings as miniguy above... I hope Cyrill can show two decks side by side - one with moving tonearm like a typical air tangential tonearm, and another with fixed tonearm and moving platter - and can demonstrate, sonically, the superiority of his design...
Hi Steve, congrats on the new speakers! The usual modern speaker pairing w Lamm seems to be Kharma, wondering if you explored that route in your search and what do you find lacking on such pairing? I think Kharma sounds great but have never listened to the Z. Thanks!
Ime single ended wins even though the circuit is fully balanced. Also tried impedance matching in fully balanced system which may be slightly better but still, single ended it is for me.
Audiophilia is dying because there has been no real progress in sound for the past decades. The industry needs to keep up with higher production costs of producing essentially the same stuff that requires more and more marketing push. It’s like the watches industry without the showy/status...
iirc bhk helped design the vandersteen amp so I believe the ps and vandy amps are more similar than different. One thing I learn about the 7 is that it needs huge power despite being high passed at 100hz. Congrats and enjoy the 7.
so a dude bought a 1mn usd cartridge to find out a few months later that the manufacturer said sorry the high end scene is not us we just wanna be like Bose…
I heard the il cremonese and midi 3.0. Compared to kharma, indeed the il cremonese sound starts at speaker plane, then layer back deep (reminds me of rockport pre-beryllium tweeter era) i.e. no sound frequency is pushed toward listener.
The midi 3.0 presents sound in a different way and imo...
IMO the kharma exquisite midi 3.0 has one of the most beautiful mids/highs (only listened to them driven by tubes though, not sure how those diamonds react to ss power). I have owned sf amati anniversario back in the days and have listened to a few newer sf. Again, imo, the sf cannot touch the...
yes and not a super easy drive, the tad 15 inch ime. the compression/horn seems to be the later version with siemens badge (not like tangs/mine), comes with eurodyn with trapezoid frame, the version before the three-woofer version. would be great to hear how this combo sound, it comes in a...
interesting system and choice of woofer. I doubt if the ml2.2 can properly drive the tad woofer and why not use Klangfilm woofer instead. Also would love to know what system the owner used before settling on this.
Nice score Peter. I suspect the L1 is closer to L2 rather than your all tube pre. That means the 6c19p is super critical, make sure it is fresh. Is there any area that you prefer the L1 to your reference pre?
Nice one Peter. I like the looser thread vs very tight as well, but have never tried varying distance between motor and platter. Did you find that the longer the distance the better?
thanks, great read. particularly like the part where the platter is spun by hand to the correct speed then needle drop. will try this exercise, it will be a good test of motor and string effect.
Is there a point of diminishing return with regards to platter mass? I understand that such point does exist with designs that has bearing, but does such point exist in air bearing designs? As one goes up the product line, platter mass increases. Micro air bearing models have platter mass...
nice, thanks for the info! i also use Sien super long bearing, which allows me to mass load the platter with layers of copper/ceramic/duralumin etc. completely transforms the deck into a beast :) pls keep us posted on your new slate plinth.
