USB versus Ethernet - a study reveals the winner

Unfortunately there are always "if"s in high end audio because "conditions" are the key to achieve the best possible sound. I do not believe that you think that all transports (good ones as per your words, which I have tried many over the last 20 years) sound the "same" especially if they are...

USB versus Ethernet - a study reveals the winner

Correct. But the PC is the source and the driver is "in the way". The driver version is directly linked to the final sound quality and in a big way, unfortunately for all of us. All drivers are not created equal and by "ignoring" their contribution in SQ is not the proper way to do things, IMHO...

Help me beat my CD Transport

It would help if you had a clue about the shipping cost so that I could push for the review... Also when are you going to post the finished product at your site?

Help me beat my CD Transport

Sorry to hear about that (the percentage of dependency I mean) :D Fidelizer and Audiophile Optimizer (AO) do address different things in a PC, so eventually you need them both (thats how I got the best Sound Quality). You should go for Fidelizer Pro (not just the freebie) since it is better...

Help me beat my CD Transport

Good to know (35 years of experience here too, but mine is mainly in speaker design -and testing equipment-, only lately I have bothered to seek better digital solutions and its people like you I have to blame...). Now, here it comes (you could probably see it coming since you design and sell...

Help me beat my CD Transport

MusiCHI is really nothing like JRiver. It does sound better, it gives the user way more flexibility and control over the library, it is bit perfect (can you say that with certainty about the others, especially when doing conversion/upsampling?), the client/server and the new stand alone version...

Help me beat my CD Transport

No I haven't, but looks interesting. My experience with all these is that you never know which one sounds better (and which is better for your system as is). The specs do not say that, unfortunately. Only direct comparisons can do that, and how many of us can do that with everything that...

Help me beat my CD Transport

The PC based server, in my "client-server" configuration does not need to be powerful (it only plays one song at any time, then waits to get the next address to play the next song and that's it!) so it is the goal to be as low power (computing) as possible. You see after the Audiophile...

Help me beat my CD Transport

The lower the clock frequency of the CPU the lower the noise level inside the PC. I probably was not as clear as I should be.

Help me beat my CD Transport

Getting good sound from a PC based (or for that matter from a Mac based) system is not difficult. Getting amazing sound is (especially for a Mac based system) but for a PC based system is possible, complicated but possible. And not that expensive (if you do it right). How to do it? 1. Get a...

USB versus Ethernet - a study reveals the winner

OK, I accept that with your current set up you got the sound quality results that you got. But... ...I have another question. Your USB interface uses XMOS drivers from M2TECH, correct? What date/version are these drivers? From a quick check I gather they are from 2010. Is that correct? If they...

USB versus Ethernet - a study reveals the winner

I have trouble accepting this test, not because of the results (direct and indirect, measured jitter and sound quality) but because of the chosen conditions, particularly the chosen lengths of the tested cables. First why did the tester use almost the maximum allowable USB cable length (16...
