Thought I would chime in here. I have a slide deck from Esoteric that I will try to attach later. The deck is mostly about the new DAC architecture they adopted, starting with the D1X, and which has now shown up in the K1X, K01XD, N01XD, N05XD and K03XD. However, slide #15 explains the...
Marty, the picture to which I was referring is post #34 of this thread by Golum. which features a 6N1P tube in a convert socket labeled as 5687 > 6SN7, implying, syllogistically, that a convert tube socket meant for 6N1P > 6SN7 could thus also be used to adapt a 5687 to 6SN7. That picture...
Thanks Steve, and I have assembled the same tube complement (imitation is the greatest form of flattery you know), or at least will have by Tuesday when the Tak 274B arrives. But, the top NOS 6SN7s seem to have a lot of fans out there using them in other applications, and I am definitely...
Thanks. So does that mean that the adapter Lukasz sent me to use with the 6N1P pair he provided can also be used with with the Thomson CSF 5687s I picked up?
Congrats dminches! I have really been enjoying mine. The purity on human voice is astonishing, among many other positive attributes. BTW, I see we share some musical tastes, based on the pic hanging above your Horizon ;-).
Well, my Horizon showed up earlier today. Out of the gate, I would say a much lower noise floor, more tonal density and weight, a more 3D soundstage (owing more to increased depth than to increased width), more relaxed sound overall and deeper and more articulate bass. All in all, a pretty...
Yes, there are a current model. Price in the US is $50k for a pair. No idea what the price is elsewhere, but Spectral is usually quite a bit more expensive in the EEA.
Well, given the 100% credit for my Pacific toward the Horizon and Lampizator’s track record, it seemed like the definition of a no brainer. Accordingly, I ordered it immediately, without further engagement of my brain
Well, I sat down last evening to listen with the new OS and USB driver installed. As others have noted, the improvement is simply incredible, and that is off an already very high base. For context, this improvement is an order of magnitude greater than the one I just paid a whole lot of money...
Yes, still have and will likely use the MIT cables, which are all SHD level. The Spectral gear is 30SV pre and 500AR monos. I still have it in house and will definitely do some comparison after the Audionet stuff has settled in and I have a handle on its character.
Yes, it has that ability and it is easy to do it via the software, unlike the Spectral which has to be opened up. So the problem is/was easily solved, and was not a real surprise given the reputation of the KR 242 tubes as being very high output. I was just curious what others using the Lampi...
Well, given that I am purchasing the equipment second hand, the total price is so attractive that if I later have to sell the Stern on a stand-alone basis, it will be easy to do without any economic sacrifice. After hooking the Stern up to the Lampi Pacific, it does appear to be capable of...
I am with you. The idea that making a recording using a mobile phone (what do the mic parts cost, a dollar?), perhaps even different models, of different hifi systems, in different rooms, from different distances, at different volumes in an effort to discern differences in a single component...
