Someone must have posted Patrick O'Brian's "Aubrey–Maturin" series already, but I did a search and can't find it. The best historical fiction ever written, with a musical aspect to it (the series starts at a musical performance). I'm re-reading the series for the third time. An advantage...
Since Tom isn't available, I'll volunteer if anyone is hiring people to listen to their million dollar stereo systems. ;)
I'm just going to state the obvious - the OP's question has a different answer for each of us depending on our preferences, rooms, music choices and financial...
Thanks! It was a long process. I raised them up on blocks, slid them into my truck, drove them to the upper level back deck, put down sheets of cardboard, and slid and tilt walked them to the living room, being very careful not to lose the balance and drop them. Getting them out of the crates...
So the Hailey's arrived yesterday in a huge moving truck. The driver was not happy and said he would have called his company to cancel the delivery if he could have gotten a signal. I'm sorry but they had the address and could have checked the roads before sending a monster moving truck. I...
Thanks for the suggestions. I talked with the distributor and they mentioned that the Poseidon launch happening in two weeks. I checked the launch thread here, and they are also launching a new version Pacific 2 DAC. So I'll probably wait to see the new products.
After reading a large part of this thread, I want to try out the Horizon in my system. Is there any information on how often they come up on the used market and typical prices used? I could try to audition one somewhere in Colorado, but I think it would be better to buy used and listen to it...
"The Ghost and Mr. Chicken", a perfect vehicle for Don Knott's physical comedy. It's also a lovely nostalgia piece for 1960s small town kitsch. I'd only seen it on TV in the 1960s on our black and white TV so I was amazed when I bought the DVD and saw it in beautiful Technicolor. :)
"Death...
Vlad has discontinued the Reflection monoblocs and has a new, much more expensive version, Addiction, still using the 6C33C tubes and 45W monoblocks. I talked with him yesterday, and he said he has sent the new amps out for review and is building a second set, and will update the web page with...
Yes - I have thought about that, but there are some challenges with room flow and more direct sunlight hitting the speakers. I'm not as concerned about the view, but I wonder if room reflections might work better by re-orienting the speakers in the room. I'm posting pictures below of my...
Ron - thank you for doing these videos, and I'm looking forward to more videos and the discussions they prompt.
I think Tao's comment is important. One limitation of the short video format is that a focus on a specific aspect might make it difficult to synthesize how different aspects work...
Thanks for the comments, and yes, Colorado is the best. :) There is also the option of updating the Hailey to v3, which might or might not affect the brightness and amp choice. I talked with Steve at YG and he said there should be a review published on the v3 in the next week.
Can I also ask...
Twenty years ago I had my system really dialed in - the perfect room, SF Amati Homage speakers, amazing tube preamp and Merlot amps from Supratek. A friend listened to the system and kept repeating: "You don't need drugs, You don't need drugs." I felt that described it perfectly, and that is...
I'm close to retiring and making a significant effort to upgrade my audio system, so I thought I would share that process here and perhaps get some advice on rooms, cables, power and components. I've also very much enjoyed reading about other's journeys so I'm hoping this might be interesting...
I talked with Steve and he said that there will be a review out sometime next week on the V3. Some of the updates he mentioned are the new tweeter, the cabinet wave guide for the tweeter, and a new cross over.
I'm thinking now might finally be the time to try a Class D amp, and the AGD amps look very compelling. I would also need a preamp. Wondering if you have any more thoughts on the Adante DAC and streamer vs the Alto and separate DAC and streamer?
AGD also has two new, higher power...
I didn't know that Boulder Amps did tours - and I lived about 2 miles from their shop for 13 years! Do you know what sources and DACs Boulder and YG used for their demos? Were they streaming or using a CDP or turntable? Thanks.
Given your room size and efficient speakers, it might be interesting to try the the Pass INT-25. It has been described as having a warmer and more tube like sound. Downsides are that it does not have balanced inputs. Another option might be the Boulder 866 with higher power and balanced inputs.
Yes, I wondered about that too - I currently have the Boulder 866 with 200 wpc at 8 ohms, 400 wpc at 4 ohms, 700 wpc at 2 ohms. Not sure that the 866 would be enough for these speakers.
Does YG do shop tours or demos? I know they have dealers in south Denver and Ft Collins, but it would be fun to audition them at their factory. I'm also curious about the difference between the v2 and v3. They are out of my price range new, but used or demo units of the older v2 might be an...
I think you can connect the MPS-X directly to the internet and use it with JPlay for streaming. You might need another server if you want to use Roon. I'm not certain if that's correct, so I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who already has the MPS-X. Probably best to keep your server...
Thanks - I did not see the wiring upgrade option when I placed the order, but it looks like it is something I can add later. The internal wiring upgrade for the Trio15-Coax10 is $1850, and I think it used the Fidelium cables, with another option to also add Fidelium speaker cables.
I'm thinking about trying the Butcher Block speaker stands with the iso-band footers. This would raise the height of the speaker and hopefully decouple vibrations in the speakers from the floor. I am still waiting on the parts, but I already received the cross-over with stock cables.
@Kingrex...
I'm considering the Butcher Block Rigid Rack for an amp, CD player and streamer. Would the iso-band footers be a good choice to decouple vibrations from the floor to the rack? And should I also use a speaker stand with iso-bands to avoid transferring vibration from the speakers to the floor...
Yep, I'm a true open baffle virgin. I've never even heard an open baffle speaker, but Steve Guttenberg sold me with his passionate review. I have been looking for high efficiency speakers for a couple years, and this seems to tick all the boxes. I decided I needed to hear them in my home so...
Starting this thread to discuss Pure Audio Project open baffle speakers, upgrades and tweaks. @Kingrex - if you have had both the horns and Coax10, I would be interested in hearing how they compare. And I copied your earlier post below.
What cables upgrades did you use? And can you share a...
@Kingrex - thank you for the tips, and it looks like you have both the horns and the Coax10 in your speakers? I will start a new topic for Pure Audio Project upgrades.
Agree, I think the ideal would be multiple systems optimized for different types of music. I'm still searching for my endgame speakers, so I appreciate this thread. I'm intrigued by high efficiency speakers and have wanted to hear the Reference 3a Reflectors and the Volti Rival speakers. I...
