Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Hi octavias, That was the exact issue!! Thanks so much for sharing. Not sure why the SFP port is not set to work by default. Cheers, Geoff

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Well sadly the firmware update didn't work for me. When connecting the SFP port from eth5 to TP link with fibre and back to copper into my MacBook, I get the following; My EdgeRouter X-SFP is configured as a router replacing my ISP router. I used the "Basic Setup" Wizard. This is the screen...

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

I was having the exact same problem as above this morning. Hopefully this trick will work for me as well. I was on Firmware x2.0.8-hotfix.1which was only released a day earlier? G

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Abyss Man, What were you powering with the LPS 1.2? I wonder if the less that stellar performance was related to it working near its maximum capacity of 12V/1.1A. G

Doctor's Orders-Part Two-The New Listening Room Of Steve Williams

What would be really interesting is comparing a recording where the LP and digital version is made with equal care and attention and using local playback on the Extreme instead of streaming.

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

It's hard to understand how the EdgeRouter improves on x2 M12 Gold's! EdgeRouter as replacement for Verizon I can accept but....in series as a switch?? I am gob-smacked but I accept what you say as I don't have the resources to try. Thanks for sharing. G

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Hi Bob, If I am up to date with your various switch setup changes/upgrades over the last month, you are now running x2 M12 Gold. Is the humble EdgeRouter in bypass mode still in your setup after the Verizon Router? Geoff

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Hi Bob, Don't you have an inexpensive switch (EdgeRouter) in your setup? IIRC, the audiophile switches in your setup improved on this.

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Hi cat6man, When you say you "jumped straight to case 2", do you mean that case 2 is clearly better than case 1? And in case 2, just to confirm, you have oM connected via copper to Extreme. Cheers, G

Network Improvements and their Impact on Sound Quality

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I have been wondering why adding multiple switches/FMC's, audiophile or not seems to improve the sound quality of streaming and stumbled on this article by John Swenson of EtherRegen/opticalModule fame...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Emile, Regarding the above observation. Do you think it's isolated to Qobuz or would it apply to other streaming services as well like Tidal? Is it a mastering issue or network problem; like the noise somehow gets embedded in the file. I wonder if that is the case if the same files were...

    Bayz Audio Counterpoint 2.0 >>>>Rhapsody.Audio

Hopefully this is not straying too far off topic but I'm not sure why REL promotes the "six pack" in a stack either inside or outside the mains depending on room width. It seems more of a convenience/aesthetic issue which I guess is understandable considering the size of each unit. I have just a...

    Bayz Audio Counterpoint 2.0 >>>>Rhapsody.Audio

I've read that the electronic crossover on most subs create a slight delay in the signal so the subs should be closer than the mains to compensate. This is to try and achieve ideal impulse response. Whether this is important/audible or not is debatable but the physics makes sense. G

    Bayz Audio Counterpoint 2.0 >>>>Rhapsody.Audio

Hi Zolton, Can you please explain how the woofer system works. Are they run "full range" or is there a low-pass filter? 1000Hz is still reasonably directional so mounting them off-axis like that would mean a significant drop-off in output. Does the woofer behave as a dipole as well? Thanks in...

Doctor's Orders-Part Two-The New Listening Room Of Steve Williams

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi PR13. I don't have an Extreme yet but after following this thread since Christmas, and contacting several kind folk here privately, I have just placed an order. Like all hi-end gear, I consider these "extra bits" as simply fine tuning to one's own preference; if you care to experiment. Even...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Roy, Thanks for being so generous and sharing your experience with the Extreme. I was intrigued by one of your earlier comments; " I was hearing much larger improvement with a single D2 Setchi applied to the USB port on my InnuOS Zenith SE and this may be due to the better anti-vibration...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

    Taiko Audio Daiza platforms.

Hi Emile, I've read that Daizas should be used on a flat surface. I have a very basic steel rack with MDF shelves. They are supported in the corners by 4 small upside down spikes which can be adjusted to level the shelves. Have you any customers with similar racks that have successfully used...

    Avantgarde Horn Speakers

Hi All, Interesting reading about AG and noisy amps. My father has AG Duos with tube amps so I know what you mean. I use my Chord DAVE DAC (2W) to direct drive my Voxativ 9.87 (105dB) via the RCA output terminated with spades on the speaker end with good results. This is only possible because...
