Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

Oh yes, I've just found them on the Best300B website. Have you compared the RK 242's to the original KR 242's? Do the RK version produce the same very high output from the DAC?

Is there an RK version of the 242 available now then? Last time I asked Eunice she said they didn't have plans to make any, so that's good to hear.

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

I'm in the UK. I think I'm maxed out on the tube and recti combos I want to try for now. I did also want to try the RK PX4 as Luckas recommended that to me, but again I need to be at a better baseline on the basic 101D's in terms of overall performance. Once I can do that, I can then work up...

Which tubes are folks matching the 596 with though? To be honest I only ever tried it with the 45's and the 101D's, and discounted it after that, so maybe I've not given it a fair crack of the whip. Yep, the Chatham is the potatoe masher - I think its superb with the UK 300B's, there's not a...

The 242’s sound really good with the Tak, though I think they are probably driving the pre-amp input a little hard, so they can sound a little forced on some tracks. They do everything well that we traditionally search for in ‘hifi’, great soundstage, superb detail and resolution etc. But my...

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

I’ve not found that to be fair. The Tak 274b does seem to be more etched and produce more resolution - I wouldn’t call it thick sounding, if anything it’s on the leaner side to me. One of the main things I’ve found in this voyage of discovery is the recti needs to be matched to the main tubes, I...

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

Yes, I’m sure you probably did Ked, but the rest of my system is balanced right through, so a non-balanced DAC was a mind-block for me. Yes, I have all the tubes in matched quads, so I’ll need to off-load half of them if I do eventually go SE.

I’m not that impressed with it. It’s not an offensive recti (other than to look at!) in any one sound quality direction, but the Tak, the Chatham (that you put me onto) and the KR 5U4G Anniversary are far superior in my humble testing, with the main tubes I have.

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

Hey Christoph, Back with the p2p wired B7 it had Psvane 101D's and some EML 45 mesh tubes I think. The EML's sounded dreadful at the time (flat and lifeless), but the 101D's sounded amazing. Can't remember the recti - whatever was stock back then (5U4G perhaps?). All I remember was the palpable...

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

Hey Norman, funny you say that - the magical SE B7 that I home trialled way back, also had a volume control, but my current B7 doesn't - though on the loaner unit, I always set volume to max, and controlled it via my preamp. So the lack of 'magic' with my current unit could be the balanced vs...

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

"ancillary streaming hardware" for me is SoTM SMS200Ultra > SoTM txUSBUltra plus external clock, plus power supplies for all three. I've had enough of all the boxes, I just want to go ethernet directly in to the DAC. Incidentally I don't have a GG1, but a B7. I loaned a SE B7 years ago, one...

Pacific dac: Lampizator's new top of the line dac

Hmm, that is a shame. Getting rid of all my ancillary streaming hardware would be a good excuse for me to upgrade to the GG2. Just as an aside, what is the Golden Gate 2.5 listed in your signature (as in what is the .5)?

Does anyone know if the ethernet input/Roon endpoint functionality on the Pacific has been made available as a GG2 upgrade yet?

    No, not yet. Any suggestions?
