@Oneminde,
Sorry , but you are dreaming up a non existent HV tree. I suggest to read some basic grade school physics and calculate how much voltage is needed to ionise a 3mm air gap. The voltages I measure are tiny, as in milli-volts. The capacitor suggestion is a no-fly. Find out why.
@Oneminde : thanks again,
If you have one of these amps, it should work without issues, and if there is one, I reckon I can fix it, once my arms are long enough. I receive working and non- working amplifiers for upgrades, some after 20+ years of satisfactory service.
Any aging amplifier can...
My answer was :
Hi, Oneminde , thanks, good question .
Answer : All of the above.
A simpler answer would be : "Don´t mess with it" !
cheers to you all !
Hi, Oneminde , thanks, good question . Answer : all of the above.
The design of the MusikLab and Gamut /SiriuS has origins from before the easy access to dedicated programmable processor IC semiconductors. So the support (ie. non-audio) circuits are built with more basic semiconductors...
Gamut D200´s go back to the 2001-3 era, so are getting a bit worn around the edges.
So the clicks or thumps may indicate instability and seem to appear with 20+ years of service age.
Maybe a good time and cause for an upgrade, restoring and extending the service life of a great amp to many...
Really, I should be grateful to Hear Here , for his accounts of the old 2nd hand D200 with a thump issue, and have recently done tests and mods for this issue, small in amplitude but important to some . I doubt that there are many D200 owners using delicate 105dB speakers made for 8W valve...
My words , too - there is some anecdotal evidence that the female perception of sound is way more acute that their bearded cave companions - makes some sense too. So do ask their opinion of your system - it might be valuable insights.
Other wise I am flattered pink , and speech less, and...
I am grateful for your kind praise of the amps sonic ´s , also noticed with your super sensitive speaker system - this goes to show that its first watt is as clear as its max at 200W /8R
But as I said in #52 : these amplifiers DO include relays , clearly announcing themselves after power on...
@Hear Here: So many mentions of a debilitating startup Thump. Ravaging delicate 100db+ sensitive speakers without mercy -- But the amp in question was sounding fine so probably not defective - Or , I wonder, is it real ?
What: The musikLab/ GamuT power amp has a comprehensive protect +...
Kap -777 is in part based on Musiklab power amp circuits. It is a fine amp , very well made with japanese attention to minute detail. Looking hard , you may find my name very discreetly mentioned among the many fathers of this.
Peter, components deteriorate as they age, and the thump problem you mention might be related to that. Your Mk3 might be from ca. 2000-2003, about 20 years. The D200 protect circuits constantly monitor DC, over current, overheating, sub- and supersonic issues from outside the audio path...
Hi , thanks to all for the kudos about the Musiklab and GamuT amps , my name is Michael Edinger, I live and work in cph area , Denmark.
Always working as a self owned independent 1-horse company, working for GamuT among others, ( and the previous SiriuS ) I designed the GamuT M250 unit ...
