Ampex electronics for the best possible sound

This one appeared in 1992 and was the last of Mechlabor's. http://oi59.tinypic.com/2pobfon.jpg Digital audio was very aggressive in that period and it never went into production. This is a prototype as visible from the anonymous and extremely simplified keyboard (not a scientific...

How good is your reel to reel machines frequency response ?

I've just found out something more.... this is the frequency response, measured at 7.5 IPS, of one of the very last A807 MkII ever produced by Studer: http://oi61.tinypic.com/sl662c.jpg http://oi58.tinypic.com/2wo9kqb.jpg http://oi59.tinypic.com/2h5l4qg.png That particular recorder was...

The Ugly Duck (some lifting on a Studer A812)

Hi R2R, I have two A812 that are resident in the team of my own recorders. They're visible in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbi7uIrnBGc

New Software Tape Player - HEMIOLIA Records - Italy

Hi Chris, we used the T in its original configuration, with internal preamps. That in the picture is one of the eight units we have. We use the T in the first part of the production of our tapes which is the recording session and then mastering, for its extremely clean and neutral behaviour...

How good is your reel to reel machines frequency response ?

The Nagra T has mild filtering at both hi and low frequencies. It can't go straight flat to 40 KHz even in reproduce only.

You are the winner! Sam, send me your email address and I'll come back with a little present for you. The DUT in that video was an Otari MTR15

How good is your reel to reel machines frequency response ?

No, it's not a Studer! Now it's rather late here in Italy, I'll come back tomorrow. Make no mistake the next answer ;)

Famous Swiss Tape Recorder Brand To Re-introduce Reel-to-Reel Analog Recorder!

Yes, I realize, she is even too much tolerant... She often helps me in some very dangerous operations like this! http://oi59.tinypic.com/kro1y.jpg I think I will have to erect a monument for her willingness and comprehension :o But... we are rather OT now here. I do apologize for having...

The larger is the tape the better tolerances must be, because the tape tends to rule and curls if the path is other than very well aligned. It's just a metter of perpendicularity of rollers and arms and height of the guides. Once calibrated it remains very stable.

The Ugly Duck (some lifting on a Studer A812)

There was a day when a battered Studer A812 came to my door. Signs of wear and intense use were clearly visible here and there, the top alu plate showed deep scarfaces from the manually stopped rotation of some plates. The wooden sides banged hard during its travels and a lot of chips definitely...
