I love that Devon plays avant-garde/free jazz to demo his gears just to turn off the audiophiles and that's good enough for me. The newer generation of Technics direct-drive turntables all use a coreless motor and that's worth investing time in modifying. Best of luck to you, struts!

Based on your picture of the Reed 5A tonearm. The bearing on the guiding mechanism looks crooked. Am I seeing it right? All the other pictures from the Reed website, it looks straight.
The Superarm or Vector has a secondary bearing. It's a ball bearing wrap around a spike so the arm can lean on that ball bearing. Majority of the mass rests on the spike while the offset counterweight, hollowed on one side, forces the arm to lean on one side so it makes contact on the ball...
