I know this old arm is good but I don’t know why David,Rockitman,Tang,Ron,Mike
Use or will use having top tonearm like Sat,EliteAxiom,Black Beauty,Durand

Why 3012 is so special?
I never had and I don’t understand

I am curious as to whether or not it's a synergy issue that DDK has with his AS2000 turntables or if the SME 3012r likes a particular type of deck

Take a look my system links below the 3012-r is on every turntable, it's not a question of synergy the 3012-r is the best tonearm I've heard, period! As far as types of turntable types go it works with any that can take a 12" tonearm but the better the turntable the more you'll get from SME. IME the turntable was always the bottleneck for the 3012-r and top tables like the AS2000, EMT, top Micro Seikis, etc. is where the SME finally shows all, if you look at some of the AF-0 showings 3012-r is there too!

It was also the best sounding arm of my former turntable, the Transrotor Fat Bob S, and I tried many.

 

Can we get replacement grommets from SME? If not, does anyone have a source for them please? My 3012R is grommet-less.

You can get them from SME direct, their HK distributor or service centers should have them too.

Howie. You can cut into small piece from the roll end of a lamb skin condom and use as grommets. That is a secret to natural sound ddk's only told me.

It is a limited edition for asian market in black color with lamb skin grommet.
