Too young man! He sure did bring us some great memories though.

another sad day in 2016. Prince was an amazing talent...and as Doc said, an exceptional guitar player:

"Eric Clapton was asked about how it felt to be the world's best guitarist. His response: 'I don't know. Ask Prince.' "

Wow, did he really say that? Anyway, I also wanted to post about just how great a guitar player he was. Often underappreciated in that capacity, it seems.

Did he have any ongoing chronic health problems ? Very sad. I hope drugs were not involved.

Same question here .. One of the greatest talent the World of music has known.. RIP

RIP Prince - He has zillion of fans...and live he was phenomenal according to his fans.

I had few LPs of him, and still have a half dozen CDs...maybe more...like ten.
I don't listen to them anymore though...that was back in the 80s-90s.

Worst year ever for major musical talent (at staying alive, that is), and the year isn't even 1-3 over :(

Sad news, what a Genius, "1999" spinning on my turntable

"We all could die any day, but before I'll let that happen, I'll dance my life away "

RIP

Really sad news indeed!

As he became a teetotalling vegan and Jehovah's Witness in 2010, drugs is unlikely to have been the cause. There have been reports that he died of the flu. Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept vaccination, and this year's late season secondary strain of H1N1 is particularly bad.

Apparently the I-35W Bridge in Minnesota will be lit in purple tonight in honor of Prince. I was 13 when "Little Red Corvette" came out.

That Clapton quote has gone viral, so the authenticity is to be questioned...sorry. Steve Vai used to give him high praise, which says a lot.

I didn't realize how great a guitarist he was until I saw him in concert 10 years ago. Here's a famous clip that is going around where he shreds the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame stage:

I heard an interview with the curator of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where he said that this performance from 2004 in a tribute to George Harrison was arguably the greatest guitar solo in history. Prince comes on stage at ~3:25 in and it’s pretty unbelievable. Well worth the few minutes of your time it will take to watch it. May he rest in peace, eternally jamming with other musical legends.

I'm floored by this. I think he was a Mozart-like talent and created some historic singles. Saw him in Ann Arbor, MI on the Controversy tour -- one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
