Magico Q7 + Constellation Performance series

This sounds more and more like a job for ..... (Fanfare) ... DRC Digital Room Correction. Changing the Tweeter about a few dB is better than nothing but still not a solution .. So DRC but we, audiophiles, have not welcomed the notion ...

In my experience, DRC can play a big role in lower frequencies, but not so much in the tweeter range, where a simple volume type control would do the trick. . . . or not having a ridiculously bright tweeter in the first place.

Isn't it strange that the complaints about the tweeter are that it is too bright, not that it isn't bright enough? Doesn't that say something about their design?

DRC . can i puke :D

All tube driven system with resistor control yes :D, although one can also balance the FR in the crossover by changing coil values or cap values , ive once played with the idea to also put the tweeterseries cap outside the speaker connected to either soldering pins or by screwtightening.
So a buyer can either try a mundorf silver gold oil or duelund VSF /CAST cap hence it is exact the same value of course

I'm going to throw gasoline on the fire here and say that if more manufacturers had speakers that used adjustable crossovers, especially adjustable active crossovers with multi-amplification, we wouldn't be having this conversation because everything would be user adjustable to the listening room and (god help us :D) our personal preference. :D

Don't be shy, I'm wearing my flame proof suit. :D

A number of very successful products have had external line crossovers (active or not), e.g. the ML Statement e2, I believe there was a version of the Monolith too, the Dahlquist DQ-10s, and even the old Entec sub I still use in another system, and probably lots of others... I have no problem with this approach, in fact I favor it.

No! You'll have to clean after yourself ...

According to Steve Williams, one of the site founder whose system is one of the three best I have heard to date, the best system he has heard and that include his, is Marty's who has DRC, TacT on his Pipedreams and use VTL electronics ... Marty posted in this thread and can say more about his own system ... I know Steve and coming from him that is not faint praise ... Others have heard Marty's system and their opinion is similar to Steve's so ... My opinion about DRC is very favorable.

When I was designing my system and room, I procured a Lyngdorf which we used successfully at a show as did my cousin/business partner for use in his own home where passive treatment would have severely flunked WAF factors. Turned out I didn't need it at all. Go figger. LOL.

From what little I've heard with Magicos, I honestly can't say that they are bad speakers. I think they are just REALLY picky! I have heard the V5 sound really, really good. The Q5 almost but still with overbearing highs in a very well designed room. Sometimes I think it might not be the tweeter at all but rather the amount of power needed to go low using acoustic suspension. If one looked at the cut aways and note the amount of cross bracing there is in there, you gotta be thinking that there isn't all that much cabinet volume. 440wpc into 4 ohms barely gets Q5s going in the bass.

About the Q7 I remember Jeff Fritz' series of articles and the matching with the Vitus amps. 100+ watts of pure class A on top and multiples more down below. That for a bass section that has upped sensitivity by virtue of more powerful magnets. Most, most curious how this is could have a similar tonal balance using just one stereo pair no matter how much or how little juice it has.

I am sorry what does that mean ???
I found hurling on wiki meaning a irish game ???? :D

I cannot comment on steves system or martys ive never heard them , and they might change my opinion

From the movie Wayne's World!

Garth Algar: Uhm, Wayne? What do you do if every time you see this one incredible woman, you think you're gonna hurl?

Wayne Campbell: I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.

Does that help? :)

At this level of performance...my instincts say customizeability is more important than the last ounce of cabinetry refinement, the latest tweeter or woofer. There are some 'big' areas...active subs built-in which can be adjusted, etc...which i would personally be prepared to pay more for. I admit...i do like Wilsons for that, and have been astounded by listening to the four hours of refinement that took place in my room after the initial setup....

This is one of the main reasons I have my MM3's. I know it's not a larger room that they would normally be placed in, but the flexibility of controls on the tweeter and bass modules make these a no brainer!

A little , :D i did like waynes world.

For anyone living in and around the Dallas area I would suggest sending Marty a PM and ask to come over for a listen. In my 50 years in this hobby , simply put I haven't heard another system on the planet that even comes close to Marty's.

Spoiler Alert.....Make sure you wear your Depends as you might find yourself incontinent after your listen :)

Having said that almost certainly I will be using DRC in my new room due to some constraints in the room measurements

It's like when one of my clients decides to come into the gym and train when they're sick and I tell them no hurling on the trainer :)

Coming from you and your system...that is saying something!

It means that they are only acting sick and trying to trick you ???

No :) They are sick and so if they get nauseous while working out, the rule is no throwing up on the trainer.

Hurling (slang) = throwing up!
