Introducing the All-New Rockna RS DAC

The Rockna Wavedream Reference DAC set a standard of excellence for a decade and is best known for combining distinctly non-digit al sound with exceptional detail and dynamics. After several years of development, Nicholae Jiartu, Rockna’s Founder, is proud to announce his next generation of Wavedream technology, the Wavedream Reference Signature DAC.

As with the Wavedream before, the Wavedream RS hybrid in-house ladder-dac technology and fully balanced architecture redefine what is possible in a compact and relatively affordable package. What continues to distinguish Rockna DACs is the use of proprietary hardware and software—there are no limitations from off-the-shelf solutions like DAC chips, OEM streaming modules, or signal op-amps.

True to Rockna’s ethos, each element embodies the highest degree of originality and well-engineered technical solutions to achieve the finest, most dynamic, and most natural sound available.

The DAC is built upon an optimized AMD/ZYNQ chip used for master control/network renderer and 4 FPGAs, one for each phase of the discrete conversion system. An in-house Rockna custom Linux system handles everything except audio processing, which is executed by the dedicated hardware blocks.

Internally, a 10-layer central core board is employed for front-end digital processing. The network renderer uses a new low-noise supply board and conversion boards in a symmetrical configuration, two for each channel. Compared to earlier Wavedream products, clock and data signal paths have been shortened significantly, improving signal integrity.

A copper cage shields the power transformers and the display, lowering noise and creating one of the blackest sound stages one can experience regardless of cost. The analog stages following the D/A conversion modules are hidden on the back of the left and right boards for the most discrete single-box DAC/streamer available.

Each Wavedream RS is encapsulated in a fully machined aluminum chassis finished in black or silver anodizing.
