Well I don't think we've heard the last of HDL, though it does push researchers to reexamine what's going on. Kinda of like back when everything was cholesterol, cholesterol, cholesterol. Then someone pointed out that 1/2 the people dying of heart attacks had normal levels o cholesterol So it seems to be happening again. I think though the take home message is assess, test and retest hypothesis! Unfortunately this takes time and sometimes in our medical field, those with opposing ideas (such as the doctor who pointed out the role of homocysteine in CHD) are often ignored.
Much has instead been made of the VLDL particles over the last couple of years, and their role in CHD as they are very easily oxidized. We'll see if that now garners more attention.
