They are still around but have tripled to quadrupled in price!!! Amazon.com, .de, .fr and .co.jp all have it.

I find only minimal improvement over the original CDs, and I read on some forum that Esoteric simply dubs the original RBCD. If that's true, then I'll never buy another one!

Concerto No.1. It's a little slow, especially the first movement, but it's quite gripping and very well recorded.

I read the review of any remastered CD (particular any which are expensive) before i buy...this one was unanimously praised as one of a handful of the most successful remasters. I have to say, this one of the Mahler 5th Barbirolli are stunningly good. I have read that Grumiaux's Mozart Violin Concertos feel a bit dated in recording quality. This one really does not feel that way at all. It is very good.

No.1-6 today. Some staggering feats of virtuosity.

Their newest installment in this superbly played and recorded (the mics pick up some breathing, though) series.

I don't think I've ever read such negative liner notes about a piece! They basically say, "This concerto is a hot mess, and doesn't really work, but it's enjoyable nevertheless." Banfield certainly gives it his all, but the sound is a bit murky. Still for $.01 plus shipping, it's a decent recording. By the way, the musicians cut about 100 measures, so I might investigate Tzimon Barto's recording sometime.

Spirited playing captured in richly resonant sound.
