I just received this from Brian Ackerman of Aaudio Imports:

On Friday my truck was broken into in the state of Nevada at the hotel I was staying at on my way to the California Audio Show.

All the Ypsilon gear was stolen, Aelius amps, PST100 MKII, DAC100 & CDT100. Along with several Stage III cables, several HB Power Distributors, Acapella platforms and tools. Damage to my truck and a broken back window.

I filed a police report and they have a detective on the case.

The retail value was around $250,000 USD.

I drove to a customer’s home in California on Sunday to borrow his Ypsilon gear, HB Strip and Stage III Cables so I’m still able to do the show.

I can’t even begin to tell you the day I had on Friday……..

Also the thieves didn’t get the remote controls for the PST100 preamp or CDT100 CD Player, so whomever tries to purchase these units will probably be looking to purchase the remotes at some point because the units won’t work without them. Then we can turn them over to the police department immediately after getting their information.

I suggest that we spread the word around and we all check the various websites which they might try to sell them.

They didn’t get these items:

- CD Puck for the CDT100

- Remote control for CDT100

- Owner’s manual for CDT100

- Remote control for PST100 MKII

- Owner’s manual for PST100 MKII

The gear was stolen in the city of Sparks Nevada, USA on Friday August 2nd, early morning.

Any information on this matter can be set directly to detective Jason Edmonson (see below).

Brian Ackerman

Wow, that sucks. I hope the stuff was insured ?
The Ypsilon may very well be my next phono stage, especially if I can demo it in my system.

The gear will be impossible to sell. Thieves are idiots. I know who will be holding the remote at the show. :)

Really sorry to hear Peter...at least everyone is safe. That matters most. That said, if you have serials, I think it would be a good idea to post them?

If I were Brian, I would be very careful how much detail he releases to the public about how the theft took place. In the event this theft was organized, you don't want to help the thieves by giving them too many details. Then again, they probably don't read WBF. :)
I generally don't represent thieves though. So, I am not an expert. Most of these folks can't hire a lawyer. My clients are wrong place/wrong time type folks.

Don't think I have heard of the more esoteric pieces being stolen where the thieves weren't caught within weeks or months.

Many hotels/motels that aren't in the main casinos around Reno are hit almost nightly in the parking lots. Stayed at one once, never again, car sirens going all night. We just put our stuff in the hotel room (not much better) and left the car open on the advice of somebody who told us to do so.

Part of the downside of the gambling meccas, if you move a little bit away from the main neon strips, there are large numbers of desperate people trying to steal everything that isn't nailed down. Reno area has a very large and very active culture of sophisticated vehicle thieves. I guess at least years ago the police were overwhelmed or just didn't care outside the main casinos.

Yeah, I was going to say, this might just be a smash and grab, and the culprits might not even have a clue as to what they have. They would have been better off stealing some flat screen TVs or some other appliance-type commodity that could be sold on the street. Sorry to hear about this. Guess it just shows that good old fashioned crime is still with us, and not limited to the Internet scamsters.
PS: Peter knows well the story of the stolen F-50 from his neck of the woods. The car finally turned up years later, and was recently offered for sale with its interesting provenance.

That just sucks, sorry. I hope they can recover some of this for you.

I have stayed in Sparks a few times on the way to and from CES in Vegas. I usually park my trailer right in front of the hotel office so they can see it. I also back the back door up to a pickup or wall so that no one can open it without moving the trailer.

He could post some WTB ads or check ip addresses on his website related to page dealing with retail price. He might be able to narrow things down to Nevada. The thieves will need to determine the value somehow.

Sorry news for sure (but great service from a customer to help out at short notice, let it be said). It's a long shot but it might be worth registering some ' saved searches' with E-bay for these units so that you get notices when items matching your criteria show up. Not foolproof but anything that makes it a problem for these thieves is worth trying.

I am going to assume these were target of opportunity thieves who have no idea what they stole and what it's worth. They may have taken them to a local pawn shop and dumped the whole lot for next to nothing.

Brian has insurance which should cover the loss, which is better than I can say about someone else who suffered a similar loss a few years ago and had no insurance -- he and his wife were financially devastated, and they are still struggling.

I agree this may likely be an instance of smash and grab, with the culprits not knowing what they have. Alerting pawn shops and the like nationwide may be the only hope for recovering the goods. In any event letting people know of the crime is a good idea so everyone can be on the lookout.

Was it the Nugget Casino in Sparks? The gangs in Sparks are a problem, but I doubt the thieves know what they have. I can't imagine how they would fence this stuff, unless they walked into Metro Pawn and asked for some absurd amount like $5,000. I live in Reno and only a few people would know what this equipment is. I would think the insurance company would be on this. Good luck.

These low life dirt bags by now might have a clue what they have stolen. These high priced items will surface , hopefully soon.

Many manufacturers have sadly been victimized by thieves over the years. :( I don't remember the stuff (speakers, etc.) turning up so it might have ended up like so many stolen cars south of the border .

Commodity prices are still pretty high. I wonder if these amps will be melted down...

Wow I hope they get these low life losers and cut their hands off. If the sanctions to our laws were such then crime would go way down. Steal your hands come off. I am talking about these LLL driving down the rd. with all this gear and they get pulled over and caught red handed. They are asked to get out of the truck and their hands are cut off. Rape and your dick is cut off!! Kill and you are seen by many witness like the FH shooter you end up @ the crematory and chucked in alive within days of the crime.

Sir how did you lose your hands? Well I took audio gear out of a car and tried to sell it and got caught.

Put the video of the cut off on the evening news and crime will DROP!!
