Using Power Conditioner to eliminate Noise carried over Ethernet

Received my Teradak TS212 and also quite recently got in the Cisco 2960G switch along with a Cisco fibre optic cable

Also had Spectrum out and relocated the modem + router by the system, which elevated system performance significantly, as I thought it would. Until doing this, I have been relying on a distant WiFi connection. I would strongly advise anyone who is streaming via WiFi to try a physical Ethernet connection and see if they benefit as we have done.

The Cisco switch did bring a suble but noticable improvement too. Although my unit was direct from Cisco new old stock (there was only one left), I did a reset upon receiving it. Works fine.

I set about hooking up the Teradak converter. Unfortunately I am not getting any ethernet signal confmation on the streamer (EverSolo DMzP-A6 Master Edition). The indicator light on the fiber port is not on so I assume nothing is coming through to the switch?

The config is as follows: Spectrum modem router via ethernet cable is connected into the TS212. The fibre cable is connected to the fiber port. The fibre cable is about 1meter and connects into the 2960G fiber port. I tried the ethernet cable that connects from the 2960G into the DMP-A6, plugged either into the port next to the fiber port and then also into one of the other open ports (not console). No joy. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

A word on the Teradak TS212. It is surpringly well made for such a product. The case is of heavy gauge brushed aluminium. It is relatively simple as such a product will be, but dare i say it, it is quite beautiful in its quality construction. Not the same as the pic on the website. It also has a heft to it, indicating its quality. Most impressive. I shall be looking at Kam Audio's other components now too.

Just have to get this working

Hi Superdad! Thanks for responding. Please find photos attached. It is an actual Cisco cable. Hopefully I got the right one with compatible transceivers?

1 buy a galvonic medical grade net work iso , https://www.emosystems.com/network-isolators/
get one with low loss .
2 find a suitible linear psu for your router and modem . this can be tried after the above is tried first .

my reason is a network iso must be observed first , use just in one location near the start of the chain .
an example at modem output to router .
if the modem is also a router menaing one box use after the port used for your audio netwrok .
if you can buy a router for all audio only place at one port from cabel router . this is best and if done the iso goes at input to the new router .
reason for audio router is a few , this gets linear psu , this only does audio and make this its own netwrok . emaning as an example 195.168.1.111 is home where audio is 192.168.
0.111 . this alaone makes all netwrok traffic audio only .
a router has many jobs so less jobs is better for audio .
just my thoughts
ps im not against conversion to optical but this adds more chips and a complexity of work back and forth .
big name companies in audio do this , but they have put the effort to make it better through time and effort .
use cat 6 or above shileded made data wire , while your not using the shield these wires do have a level of EMI and RFI shielding .

What SFP are you using and are they compatible. Some will not communicate each other. Is the Media converter compliant with the SFP you are using ie 10g vs 1g vs 100g?.

Well the cable you bought (Cisco SFP-10G-CU1M) is not even fiber optic. That’s a Direct Attach Cable—which is dual twinaxial copper terminated to an almost empty PCB inside the SFP shell. They have their uses but provide zero galvanic isolation.
Anyway, that module advertises itself— to whatever it is plugged into—as a 10G-capable SFP+, and the datasheet for that series has a footnote indicating that it is not certified for use with all Cisco switch models.

I’d suggest you purchase some other transceivers.
 
Hi RepublicofTexas! I went with your recommendation on the Teradak TS212. And the Cisco 2960G switch. As Superdad has pointed out, the cable/ transceivers I got is not the right one. I need the two transceiver modules and the fiber cable. Can you remind me again of your preference? I love the Teradak by the way. Great recommendation. I also purchased some very well made banana plugs from Kam Audio too.
 
RepofTexas, I looked again at the diagram you sent. I did confirm your use of Finisar transeiver modules and owens corning fiber cable. Thanks again.

Ok, got qty 2 Finisar ordered. The part number is FTLF1318P3BTL. It is described as Industrial Temperature 1.25GB/s RoHS Compliant Long-Wavelength Pluggable SFP Transceiver.

Also ordered the cable: Cable Matters OFNP Plenum Multimode Duplex OM3 Fiber Cable - 16.4ft long.

I took the opportunity to order some UGREEN Cat8 Gaming ethernet cables also. These are designed for wide bandwidth fast streaming rates. Made with solid-core oxygen free high purity copper. Got qty 2 5ft and qty 3 10ft, which will allow for a standard Cat8 / fiber chain from modem to streamer etc.

Another question, and this is with respect to the streamer I am using. I am experiencing a problem connecting via wifi (control app on mobile phone), simultaneously while hardwire ethernet is connected. Surely we must have ethernet always connected to experience the full benefit of the streamed content? I hear a markedly superior result when streaming over ethernet as opposed to airplay wifi?

I am glad to say that I hear an improvement in sound with the Cisco 2960G (and i still have to try the fiber bridge yet). It is subtle but noticable and am very satisfied with the result.
 
I dont think steamers do both same time
Servers steamers I built the WiFi is from audio routers
Or what ever router used on that network

Thanks Alrainbow. Curious then if that is the case, how does one keep the benefit of streaming directly from the internet as opposed to wifi, which is streaming from the iphone/iPad. The EverSolo DMP-A6 streamer uses the mobile app to control the unit.
 
What I do is this
the network is set up for audio but has its own router
now this is best as it keeps the network traffic within your audio only
that router goes to internet through what ever Method you have
example fios or spectrums own router modem
WiFi is just to run your steamer software only
it’s the same if you don’t have an audio only router
WiFi connection is to your router only
This then sends packets to your streamer
I’ve found to use a food audio router improves sound on internet music sights
Tidal and the like
I don’t use any WiFi for internet music
some feel it’s ok but to me unless the streamer is controlling the WiFi router and packets flow it’s less of a sound
I know the goal is network isolation
but think how the isolation occurs
if it’s data cable yes galvanic iso
if optical yes it’s isolated but at the exp of translating data in real time both sides
big names do this but they use very different methods then a stick with chips
one more thought solid data wire is best most times

Yes it’s only a control point no music data is over WiFi
turn your WiFi off on your phone after a track starts playing
Most all keep playing like roon does this

I do have an additional Netgear Nighthawk Router, which I could connect either to the modem (there are two additional ports) or through the Spectrum-supplied router tower. Hopefully the modem will accomodate two routers without conflict? Very interesting idea. Will try.

Stay away from spectrum router it’s not that it’s bad it’s locked you cannot figure port forwarding
I use it for WiFi and house network
Lutron and next stuff like this.
I manage a nas in nyc from here down south
Others need to access it and no matter spectrum messed me up.
My spectrum modem only had one port
It goes to a to a asus router high end multi freq mesh type system
this is first off the modem and allows programming
then a port on this router feeds my spectrum router
off of the an asus port this goes to my audio router
this may sound complex but in your case
It’s plug and play
the second router enables its own dhcp
Then it’s all auto
so modem is let’s say 192.168.1.1
Asus router is 192.168.50.xxx This starts separate network this is where you go and that’s all
only thing is to control your streamer your control point must be in the this WiFi network
Or if lan must use this routers ports.
just doing you should hear an improvement
Then build on this.

While I know what I mean I’m not so good at explaining it lol
