Other than occasionally lifting power amplifiers onto racks high-end audio is one of the least physical endeavors imaginable. So how should audiophiles stay in tip-top physical condition, ever-ready to evaluate that new component?

Get your ears cleaned!

That's right; the best tweak of all may be a trip to the ear, nose and throat doctor to get your ears unclogged!

This tweak will restore left/right channel balance, increase sensitivity and extend frequency response!

+1 clean ears regularly with simple oil and bulb syringe. As for fitness; play more 45's.

I have pretty standard hearing for my age (62) and have been thinking of seeing my doctor about this. I'm sure it would open up some sounds for me.

In all seriousness Ron is onto something. Depending how much ear wax your body produces I can imagine the effects are not good for our hearing prowess. There are many over the counter solutions and irrigation bulbs that can be used. I wouldn't think a trip to the DR would be warranted unless you have a large blockage. Maybe we have a resident ENT physician in our ranks that could offer some friendly advice.

Good point. I have no issues with ear wax at all....never have. Does that mean I don't produce any?

I have never had an issue with ear wax but my wife has. A few years ago she thought he had hearing loss. A trip to the doctor and she said she had a severe buid up of ear wax. She had it cleaned out and she said it was like getting a new set of ears!

It is true. I got my ears unclogged today and I hear soft details more acutely.

It's like having a neutral density filter removed from your hearing.

A mix of Peroxide, glycerine and baby oil ,or use a wax softener, and 1/2 an hour later a few rinses with lukewarm water and a bulb syringe is what I do every 3 months

I go to an audiologist and a ENT specialist every 2 years or so.. to get checked out. Audiologist is a bit useless as they dont really test for very fine hearing nuances.. but they can tell me if anything has got worse in the last 2 years.

It's kind of scary to me that people who claim to be audiophiles can't tell if their ears are plugged?

Halloween type scary; I remember once listening to a sizzling bright demo system, when I expressed that opinion, I was advised "get your ears cleaned".

Recently lost recognition of a 12K tone; so I cleaned my ears, still couldn't hear ...

Isn't this the best method?
