If you do not have solar panels and you think that this thing will reduce you bills or save you in a power outage, well it only delivers 5 hours of power at a time.

Seems to me Tesla isn't selling the volume of cars they want so why not sell batteries to help amortize the cost of the battery plant.

Looking on the Tesla web-site, I see that the DC-AC inverter is NOT included.
You are right. What a poorly articulated announcement then. They position this as an automatic power regeneration system then they leave out a major component. Wonder if they are relying on third-party inverters or their own.

Also, for current, it states.

5.8 amp nominal, 8.6 amp peak output

I am pretty sure my AC draws more current than that. Plus each amp draws about 7-8 amps while idle. However, this still might be worth buying. Of course, if it only saves $35 a month on the electric bill then it will take 100 months to recoup the investment. :)

That's OK actually as the batteries run at 400 volts so the current would naturally be lower at that voltage. Once stepped down to 120, the peak current jumps up proportionally.
