Single Soulution 511 amp driving M2?

Hello,

I have the M2 on order and trying to figure out if I should prepare myself for an amp upgrade. I currently own a Soulution 511 amp and love the sound. Perhaps I need to move to a mono setup?

Does anyone have experience driving the M2 with a single amp? Curious to hear your impressions.

thanks
Udi

It will depend on your room and listen habits. I would venture a guess that the 511 will be just fine. Soulution does not make wimp amplifiers.

Yes. That’s what I am hoping... The room is about 12x19 ft.

You should have plenty of control and headroom. Great paring of amplifier and speakers. Let us know when the M2's get settled.

I had 511's in mono driving MProjects......the amps were terrible.
Lifeless, hard, no dynamics

That’s surprising to hear considering they often show together. What did you end up with instead?

At that price point I’d expect a little more life and dynamics... however, calling the soulution terrible seems a bit over the top, no? I wont have a chance to hear the MSB anytime soon.

I said the 511's (in mono) where terrible, not Soulution in general.....
Actually if u want to bring price into the conversation, the Ayre mono's are much better IMO

Again, YMMV

Ok, I appreciate your input. I’ll sit tight and wait for the m2 to arrive and see where I net out.

511 input impedance is an extremely low 2K. Just curious, what preamp or DAC did you use to drive them?

Sounds like an impedance mismatch if your source is not Soulution or have similar output impedance.

Good thought on the impedance match

MSB Select Dac II.....I think the impedance match should be OK

The Soulution 500 series products have low input impedance of 2k ohms as suggested. The 520/1 preamps have seriously low output impedance of 10 ohms to make a good match. Similar to Dartzeel, the Soulution 500 series pre amps and amps should be paired for the best match. The 520 preamp input impedance is seriously low at 3K ohms as well.

Soulution 5 series pre/dac output impedance is 10 ohms and 7 series 2 ohms. They're designed to work with Soulution amps.

I can't find MSB Select II output impedance. MSB M500 has User Selectable Input Impedance 75? / 300? / 1.2k? so my guess Select II probably not very low. @Kingsrule, have you tried different settings on M500?

I had similar experience demo Audia Flight Strumento N°4 with 7.5 input impedance. Wasn't interested in Audio Flight pre at 5 ohms. I brought one of my pre and use 2 from distributor. He's also a Verity distributer. Speakers was Verity Lohengrin IIS and had similar reaction. Lack bass, lifeless, no dynamics ....

IMHO synergy between components within same company mainly means impedance compatible.

Agree on the synergy...MSB recommends 75ohm with the M500's and that's what I use
