Not if they continue to stick with the Philips cd pro mechanism. To do sacd they'd have to switch to an esoteric transport.

Many manufacturers consider that the current offer of SACD's is not enough to justify the inclusion of this format in a digital player. The capability to play DSD could be interesting in a piece with digital inputs, but considering that most DSD recordings have been converted to PCM during their creation the interest is mostly academic.

Do you know for sure if the CD9 has an USB input?

Personally, with digital changing almost as much as IPhones and computers, I have gotten off the high priced digital bandwagon. But, I do love to read about them!

It has been posted on the AudioAficionado site that the BNC label on the front panel was a mistake - it will appear as USB in production units.

My guess is that quite a few people (relatively speaking of course) will buy it. ARC has never produced an SACD player, so current ARC front end owners and a vast majority of people who don't own (and never will own) many/any SACDs will be the core market for this and will spring for it. Obviously, for those that built a collection of SACD, this is probably not going to be the product for them, but they probably already own an SACD player that they are happy with that they will continue to use.

Never say never ;)

I think we have to separate playing SACDs as a physical medium (which would need a different transport - not likely, unless Philips discontinues the CD-Pro2 drive) and DSD files over USB.

The later is more likely.

I like what Oppo is doing, for a lot less.
