Sure, I wasn't suggesting that you go there - it's an arid place, devoid of any spark of curiosity, sucks the life out of everyone who enters.

All of this is largely irrelevant as no one has shown that you have valid measures of realism in music reproduction. If you have ever heard an improvement with a new power cord, isolation device, or ac filtering device, you have to know that your measures are deficient.

I would love to see a simple correlation coefficient between measurements and a ranking of quality among listeners. My guess were anyone to do this, a coefficient of over .3 would surprise me. This, of course, would mean your measures are explaining 9% of the variance. This is better than weather forecasting, but hardly definitive or satisfying.

There are some really great members on HA (knowledge-experience-approach), although IMO that is a small number and not the most vocal on there (or have not posted in many years).

I don't know about making your day but I hope we are done once and for all with you saying you "invented ABX." It is highly unethical to claim credit for other people's work. It is not cute. It is a serious matter.

However the ASA was publishing a great many papers based on the JASA version of ABX long before the AES even mentioned the AES version of ABX. People who read journals and don't just drop their names know such things. They also know the nature of the differences between the two. One of the items in the committee review of Clark's AES ABX paper included clarifying these things because enough people in the AES knew about the ASA version of ABX whcih came much earlier. So did we. BTW the letters ABX in the AES were originally a play on my initials.

I just can't fathom sometimes why he says what he says.

Thankfully, this site does a much better job of moderating than some of the other sites. CA, for example, has virtually no moderating and trolls often run wild. Some have even accused the site (CA) owner of employing paid trolls. Unfortunately, trolls = fights = clicks = income. There is one well known troll over there who came here to try the same behavior, but received a warning pretty quickly. Predictably, he jumped back over to CA where trolling and the purposeful spreading of armchair misinformation go unchecked. One especially irritating characteristic of the troll, is that they typically have no formal education/training, or credentials, whatsoever, yet expect everyone to address their every armchair assertion. Very annoying. Loitering on forums, literally 24/7, is pretty typical, as well.

I recommend reading a bit on troll psychology, it explains a lot of the behavior we see.

Interesting, so you are saying it is a big commercial site, where all the USB, PC modding, reviews etc etc are all driven by $$, and may not be genuine?

You have not really seen distasteful. Distasteful is Arny in the last 12 hours no less claiming that my positive ABX test results of original file to MP3 at 320 kbps must be fabricated. I even re-ran the test last night with the new copy of foobar ABX plug-in which provides cryptographic hash (fingerprints) of the files and the log file. He says I could have used two different files rather than the same one compressed. In return, I have asked him to simply run this test and report his results but he is refusing so far. I have even provided the timecode mark down to 0.1 second as to where to listen for the difference. Yet the accusation of unethical conduct continues with no foundation.

I wish putting the boot in helped but it is having no effect. The improper and non-constructive comments continue.

What is your suggestion? That we leave the FUD remarks be and create confusion for others trying to read and understand the topic?

Yea, I find the accusation of dishonesty to be the last inexcusable defence of this group of people who seem to have adopted ArnyK as their leader. Attempting to defend such behaviour & the person perpetrating such, I find distasteful.

A great example of why I find most blind testing suspect, is given in ArnyK's ABX results here
Immediately, both Amir & I picked up on the time he took for most of his trials - from 1 to 4 seconds - he was obviously not bothered doing the test & just hitting buttons randomly to get to the end (his accusations of dishonesty in others is ironic). Surprisingly, he didn't even realise that this would be revealed in the results & as usual, is expending lots of energy trying to find a way of explaining his gaff, yet again

I have reiterated JJ plea & asked for controls to be used with blind tests - something that has so far fallen on deaf ears. Such controls would quickly reveal such guessing by showing the false negatives & therefore eliminate the full body of results from this tester as invalid.

As it is a body of null results has accumulated but we have no way of knowing how many of these are from people like ArnyK, just not bothered (or agenda driven)? Using such results as "evidence" that listening tests reveal no differences is disingenuous. Without these controls blind tests are fundamentally suspect.
