Munich HighEnd 2024

I ll design one if i hear a good SET first .

The best chance regarding me liking SET is likely Lamm .
Where am i gonna hear one??
For Lamm i probably need to fly to miami.

In my real world designs i dont need more than 91 db .
The dealer in Brussels (amplitude ) uses a 50 watt tube amp plus solid state Hegel amplification.
Sounds fine but not on CAT level.
.
,@ Morricab music has " drive and dynamics" SET s dont have that .
May be on a enourmous AC horn design but not on real world commercial speakers.
Off course the old western Electric horns / Sibatone sounds special in their own way but again not a commercial concept

I talked with ken Stevens about it he said go ahead put them side by side he was quit confident i d like CAT more.

Dont be so dogmatic , i simply dont want the stuff.

Microstrip had them for a while and still preferred VTL.
I had the Lamm ML3 and the VAC 450's side by side for 4 months. VTL = VAC = CAT....more similar design approaches than different. if you heard all three blind folded on big Wilson's it might be hard to tell the difference.

Lamm was more real, but also less neutral, likely more speaker dependent. if I had to choose long term it would be the Lamm (more like my long lost Tenor's). my issues would the more related to support questions. but maybe those questions would be answered.

if I was a Wilson guy then possibly it would be different. but I'm not.

The best - none! No agenda like you

You dont even have a system , so what s your agenda helping people with "free advice ", lol
Buying stuff / selling stuff loosing money in the process and finding what you like in the end is something different then stepping in a dealer show room or somebodies place which is basically unfamiliar.
So you spend all this money flying around the world just to help people .
So you re basically a Robin Hood of some sort fighting against the bad greedy audio industry.

The problem with you is you keep stuffing your opinion in somebodys throat even if they never asked for it.
Most people buy a stereo because they wanna relax after a days work , there is not much more to it

The Gobel speakers were great and should make a lot of customers very happy. I think they will be a real winner.

The woofers – which resemble some 18Sound drivers – certainly look more promising than the drivers in comparable speakers, such as the aforementioned Peak Consult. The heavy coating will shave off some 'carbonized paper purity', but I can see why many people prefer Göbel to similar speakers.

Uncoated carbonized paper cone (connoisseurs will note the similarities with some of the best sounding woofers in audio history):

The SET crowd is like the Jehova witnesses lol.
No thks.

Its a hobby listening to music .
The last thing i need in my free time / hobby is people telling me what to buy
You are the one who is not open minded. There are now plenty of SET friendly speakers you could buy…and designing one seems to be possible for you. What are you afraid of? That you might enjoy music more?

But the SET crowd has won , the whole discussion is about Sets again , thank you morricab
I simply told you to make some high sensitivity speakers…you brought up SET. PP triode class A also sounds pretty good as do some hybrids like Ypsilon.

I dont wanna hear the word SET ever again .
Here some pictures of a good system.

I could see where morricab was goimg .

besides that the XPE i designed is 94 db eff which is quit high already .
My 10 watt solid state drives it quit good because it only drops to 3.5 ohm imp .
I see no reason the lamm ml3 would not be enough

Hello Brad,

Thank you for your report and favorites preference ordering.

I find interesting/puzzling the polarization occasioned by the Aries Cerat system. You loved it; Marty didn't like it at all (to put it mildly).

Marty only heard it on Thursday I believe. It was still undergoing setup optimization.

I heard it on Saturday & Sunday , it still sounded terrible. No amount of extra days is going to make that system listenable, I agree with Marty.

Now, my list of the best systems regardless of cost:

1) Aries Cerat (Final Sunday setup). This huge ambitious system was a challenge to get setup and sounding up to it's potential and improved everyday from Thursday onward. My rating for the best sound at the show is based on the final sound achieved on Sunday. I can understand those who thought it didn't sound good on Thursday and Friday but the transformation to Saturday and then Sunday cemented it as something truly special. Simply the closest to live dynamics, live tone, live resolution that was at the show. As a note, I went to a Shostakovich Opera (The Nose) in Munich and got a huge dose (too much actually...it is a hard opera to listen to) of live, huge dynamics and many instrument live sound...AC sounded more like this than the others

Do you know what changes were made to achieve a transformational metamorphosis from Thursday to Sunday?

(At shows I sometimes hear improvements from day today, but I am skeptical about seemingly hyperbolic reports that record dramatic, transformational improvements from incremental changes in loudspeaker positioning or cartridge VTA or whatever. Sound-staging may improve, tonal balance may improve, cables may break in a little -- but I have never heard a system go from poor to astounding.)

My guess is I would've liked the Aries Cerat system very much. (But why were the speakers soooo far apart? (At least they look that way in the photos.))

Brad, I heard it several times. The last was Saturday afternoon around 4 pm. There may have been some improvements but it was just too far away from what I think sounds good that I did not linger. Sorry. We'll have to respectfully agree to disagree on this one.
