Msb dac analog input

good morning I have a platinum plus msb dac. and my question is regarding the analog input.

is the input considered a preamp at this point as it controls the volume but does it do this as preamp or passive only ?

I have a ps audio pwd connected to this input and it sounds better through then connected directly to my amps. any thoughts on this.

Passive only. What this tells you is the MSB passive analogue attenuation sounds better in your system than PS Audio digital attenuation. I added an active tube pre to my MSB and it sounds better still.

Thanks it was very nice for you to answer. I never thought of adding a preamp to improve sound. I always went with less is more. And I guess not always. Any ideas for a preamp I wpuld prefere a SS. But unless the tube ones is better for a gicven reason.
